Hi, Ginger! I am thrilled to invite you to my blog for the very first time and looking forward to learning more about you and your latest release WHAT THE FOCACCIA! Let's kick things off with my questions...
1.
Do you use pictures as inspiration at the start
of a book?
Usually when I start a book, I use shoot-from-the-hip dialogue between characters I have carried around in my head for a while and see where it takes me. Like unspoiled snow, a blank page is always exciting. Rather boringly though, I don’t use picture boards or playlists, although I do need to consume a steady stream of books, TV series, films and music to remain creatively buoyant.
2.
Are you an early bird or a night owl?
I’m an early bird and like to start in my PJs with a mug of tea at my side and the dog under my legs.
3.
Are the titles of your books important?
Hugely! I think book titles can turn you on or off, but essentially need to speak to the reader about what kind of book they’re going to get. Hopefully, you know you’re in for a fun romp with ‘You had me at Halloumi’ and ‘What the focaccia?’
4.
Who’s your favourite author?
I love Caitlin Moran for her astute observational humour and outlook on life, and devour everything she writes. Her ‘How to be a Girl’ series pretty much chronicles my journey through womanhood. She can make me laugh and cry in equal measure, and that’s pretty powerful. I also love Helen Fielding and David Nicholls.
5.
Can you tell me a little about your next
project?
My next romantic-comedy is
called ‘What the Focaccia?’ and comes out on 11th May. Set in
Tuscany, it is the story of fashion designer, Ramona Matthews, whose quest is to
launch size-inclusive haute-couture clothing. Battling preconceptions, hypocrisy
and a tug of war with romance, can she win over the locals and will love conquer
hate?
BLURB & BUY LINK:
Ramona Matthews has a dream: to launch a size inclusive fashion line. She even had a plan - she was down to the final two pitching their designs at the fashion house she works for. She's a shoo-in, surely? Apparently not.
Realising there is little inclusivity in the exclusive world of haute couture, Ramona bids ciao for now to her old life and heads to Italy for inspiration (and gelato). Determined to prove herself, Ramona rents a room in a Tuscan village where the locals are sceptical - not least of all infuriating Marco, who seems to be there whenever she makes a fool of herself.
Can a year in Tuscany get her life back on track? And will Ramona discover amore when she least expects it?
Ginger Jones is a fiery redhead with a love for chocolate, spicy food and swimming al fresco. She collects chintzy china teacups, drinks loose leaf Darjeeling and loves fifties fashion. Most of her writing time is spent in the company of Lulu, her schnoodle who has helped and hindered the creation of You had me at Halloumi and What the Focaccia? in equal measure.
Ginger loves comic writing. Her influences are Caitlin Moran, Helen Fielding and Nora Ephron. Having previously written for the stage, she finds the live buzz of theatre exhilarating and enjoys nothing more than finding fringe venues she never knew existed.
Her new novel, What the Focaccia? comes out on 11 May. You can pre-order here: https://linktr.ee/
