Heading Out on My Own

by Lisa A. Olech

As an author, I started my writing career as a traditionally published author for my first eight titles. And then the world tipped, Covid hit, and what I was passionate about writing wasn’t the genre de jour, and help me, I can’t write what I’m not passionate about.

During it all, the shift and twist of self publishing crested and flourished not only among new authors but established authors as well, however, in true form, I dragged my feet for far too long. I’ve always been something of a late bloomer! There was just so much I didn’t know; so much to learn. Taking on all the responsibility of so many moving parts. It was truly daunting.

But like my heroine, in my new release, THE PIRATE WORE WHITE, I’m a bit stubborn. Okay, I’m a lot stubborn. I like being in control and I love learning new things.  So with my tenth release, it was time to strike out on my own. Head off into the unknown. Cast my destiny to the winds and follow my passion in writing the stories I love to read.

So here I stand a hybrid author now. Whether traditional or “indie,” it is my hope to bring my stories to the world for as long as I’m able. I hope you’ll give them a read.

THE PIRATE WORE WHITE: The Laced Ladies of Black Point, Book 1

ALICIA STEELE is the daughter of a pirate. Adventure is what she craves. It’s in her blood. Escaping a loveless marriage and eager to claim her destiny she travels across the wide ocean to the elegant coastal village of North Carolina known as Black Point, where, by pure grit and determination, Alicia claims her heritage as a captain.

RICHARD DUNBAR is adrift. After the ship he was charged to protect was stolen and he unceremoniously tied naked to the dock by those doing the stealing, his disgrace and dismissal from the Royal Navy was guaranteed. It’s only because of his father’s money he wasn’t cast aside by society, as well. Too rich to ignore, too poor to matter, Richard finds his only solace at the bottom of a cut-crystal bottle of the finest brandy. And now he’s forced by social protocol to watch his best friend’s sister, the “forbidden” girl who’s stolen his heart, walk down the aisle to marry some prig. It’s more than one man should have to bear.

But when Alicia vanishes, it’s Richard who sets out to find her with a promise to her family he will bring her back and stay sober until he does. Traveling clear across an entire ocean, he finds her… at least she looks the same and answers to Alicia, but what he finds is a once-pampered society woman hell-bent on following some foolish notion of becoming a pirate come hell or high water… or in her case, both.

Lisa Olech loves art, pirates and a cranky curmudgeon she affectionately calls the Wizard of O. Currently the author of ten romance titles in both the contemporary and historical genres, she uses witty dialog with a side order of sexy to bring to life multi-faceted, adventurous, smoldering characters you’ll not soon forget.

A 2018 RITA Award nominee for her book, Within A Captain’s Soul, the final book in her Captains of the Scarlet Night series, Lisa achieved the ranks of Amazon Best Seller with her debut book in 2014.

Living on the shores of On Golden Pond, Lisa shares a drafty, old Victorian house with a wizard and two schizophrenic cats. As an author, artist, Justice of the Peace, and aspiring beekeeper, Lisa finds true inspiration in the beauty and love that surround her. And, she takes full credit that three homes on her quiet New England street now proudly fly the Jolly Roger from their flagpoles.
