The Ladies of Carson Street are best friends, Louisa Hill and Nancy Bloom who are then joined by a third friend, Octavia Marshall halfway through book 1 (A Widow's Vow). Together they commit to making their own way in the Victorian city of Bath working as a madam and prostitutes at Louisa's brothel on Carson Street, Bath.
The series is ultimately about suvival and female empowerment and was inspired by my reading of The Five by Hallie Rubenhold and following research into Victorian prostitution. Although gritty in places and set in the seedier parts of Bath, that does not mean there is any less of the fun, romance and frivolity enjoyed by the upper classes who frequent the Pump Room and Assembly Rooms!
My aim with this series was to give the poorer classes a chance to shine and search for their happy ever after - each woman has been hurt or abused in some way and battling to be hopeful rather than let in the bitterness that threatens to consume them. As with most of my work, these books are about female empowerment and true love.
Louisa is the most business-like of the three women, then you have Nancy a good time girl of the highest order and finally, Octavia who is the most serious. Blonde, brunette and red-head the Ladies of Carson Street are a force to be reckoned with and, best of all, they provide plenty of laughter along the way...
