IT'S SAGA SATURDAY!! My Monthly Review - The Mersey Mistress by Sheila Riley...

This is the first book I have read by Sheila Riley and I am so happy that it is the first book in a brand new series - I am looking forward to catching up with our heroine, hardworking Ruby Swift and young, resislent Anna Cassidy in the following books!

As a writer of historical fiction with strong heroines, The Mersey Mistress was all I love and more in a novel. The are heartrending moments of struggle and survival, touching romance and unfolding drama on every page... add in a fabulous, well-written cast of characters and I am hooked!

Set among the streets of tough, hard streets of Liverpool's Merseyside during the early 20th century, this is a read that will transport you back to a time where living day to day was neither guaranteed nor taken for granted...

The Mersey Mistress

Ruby Swift is a hard-working, straight-talking woman of substance who does not suffer fools gladly,
But when tragedy strikes on a bitter Christmas Eve, Ruby and her beloved Archie take matters into their own hands when a trusted employee’s house is mysteriously engulfed by flames and lives are lost.
Orphaned by the fire, Ruby welcomes heartbroken sixteen-year-old Anna Cassidy, into her home and family but circumstances conspire against them and she is unable to save Anna’s twelve-year-old brother Sam Cassidy, who is sent by the Church to Canada as a Homeboy.
Can Ruby help mend a broken heart and can these two children ever be reunited or is there another higher game in play?

Mersey Mistress takes you on a journey to another time, another place. From the banks of the River Mersey to the frozen waters of the Canadian Saint Laurence River.
