SAGA SATURDAY!! Welcome historical mystery author, Helena Dixon...

Happy Saga Saturday and many thanks to Rachel for inviting me.

I’m Helena Dixon and my saga is an historical cozy crime series set in Dartmouth in the 1930’s. Miss Kitty Underhay assists her grandmother to run the prestigious Dolphin Hotel. A series of crimes brings her into contact with widower, Captain Matthew Bryant, a veteran of the Great War. Kitty’s mother disappeared during the war and Kitty is still attempting to determine what happened to her. Matt has his own traumas and secrets but they work together to solve the crimes and to begin to finally discover the truth behind Kitty’s mother’s disappearance.

Dartmouth is a very special place, standing on the river Dart in the shadow of Dartmouth Castle. On the opposite bank is the pretty village of Kingswear with a matching but smaller fortification and the steam train station. Just upstream is Agatha Christie’s former home, Greenways.

You can recreate the journeys taken by Kitty and Matt, travelling from Paignton on the steam train then across the Dart by ferry. Follow that with a water taxi to the foot of the hill below the castle and a short walk brings you to St Petroc’s church and the castle tea rooms where you can sit and admire the river with a cup of tea and a scone. Then a walk down around Warfleet bay back into Dartmouth with it’s lovely mix of Georgian, Victorian and medieval buildings for a spot of shopping before catching the ferry and train back again.

You can find out more about Kitty, Matt and their world in my books. The first in the series is Murder at The Dolphin Hotel, then Murder at Enderley Hall and coming in June is book 3, Murder at the Play House. All of the books can be read as stand alone reads.

Blurb Murder at Enderley Hall
An escape to the country… ends in death.

Summer 1933. Fresh from the discovery that she has family living nearby, Kitty Underhay has packed her carpet bag, commandeered a chambermaid and set off on a visit to stately Enderley Hall. She’s looking forward to getting to know her relatives, as well as the assembled group of house guests. But when elderly Nanny Thoms is found dead at the bottom of the stairs after papers of national importance are stolen, Kitty quickly learns that Muffy the dog’s muddy paws on her hemline are the least of her problems.

Calling on ex-army captain Matthew Bryant for assistance, Kitty begins to puzzle out the mystery. And when more shocking murders follow, the stakes are raised for the daring duo as never before. Which of the guests stand to gain from the theft of the documents? And which, as the week progresses, stand to lose their lives?

A charming cozy historical murder mystery that fans of Agatha Christie, T.E. Kinsey and Lee Strauss won’t be able to put down!
