THEY ARE COMING TO TAKE ME AWAY

The most asked question of me as an author is ‘where do you get your inspiration from?’ And it is the most difficult one to answer, because a lot of the time, I don’t know and end up talking about people who don’t exist popping into my head and demanding of me to write their story. And go on to say that I feel these people have lived in the past and are coming through me, helping me write down what they went through as if it is happening now.

Oh, dear, no wonder they say that artists are hairy-fairy and live in a fantasy land – what I have just written is something that would have had me burnt at the stake a few hundred years ago, but in this enlightened age is looked upon as me being a penny short of a shilling – or is that, one pee short of five pee, now?

But, at the risk of being thought of in this way, I have to hold my hand up and say that this is how it is for me. And yet, I don’t mean that I am some kind of medium, just that I so connect with my characters that they come alive in my head. I love some of them and hate some of them, which are two of the strongest emotions any person can feel and I actually get under their skin and become them through good times and bad – crying buckets of tears when they are hurt or mistreated and laughing when they are funny, and grieving with them and for them – I feel their pain and their joy.

My mission is to get them out of horrible situations, as I would strive to get myself out of the same predicaments. You see, resolution of their problems and bringing them to happiness is the only way they will rest – and let me rest . . . Eek, is that a van outside?

Before they do, I just have time to thank you so much for hosting me on your lovely blog, Rachel and thank you too, to all who visit and take the time to leave a comment.

BIO:

Born in Maidstone, Kent, in 1945, the thirteenth child of fifteen children, Mary's family settled in Leicestershire after the war ended.

Mary married young and now, after 54 years of happy marriage, four children, 12 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren, Mary and her husband live in Blackpool during the summer and Spain during the winter - a place that Mary calls, 'her writing retreat'.

After many jobs from cleaning to catering, all chosen to fit in with bringing up her family, and boost the family money-pot, Mary ended her 9 - 5 working days as a Probation Service Officer, a job that showed her another side to life, and which influences her writing, bringing a realism and grittiness to her novels

Mary first put pen to paper, in 1989, but it wasn't until 2010 that she finally found some success by self-publishing on kindle.

Being spotted by an editor at Pan Macmillan in 2013, finally saw Mary reach her publishing dream.

Now, she continues to write for Pan Macmillan, but also writes for Sphere using her pseudonym Maggie Mason.

When not writing, Mary enjoys family time, cooking, reading, eating out, travelling and gardening.
