Inspire Me!

This week's Inspire Me! post is dedicated to British social reformer, Octavia Hill.

In my ignorance it was only this week I learned of Octavia Hill - I have just began to research the possibility of writing a new Victorian series and Octavia name came up as one of the most inspiring women of the era.

Born in 1838, Octavia Hill worked tirelessly through her life to become a pioneer for affordable housing and can be considered the founder of modern social work. To finance her plans for reform, she accepted a loan and went on to set up a network of regenerated tenanted housing. She arranged for playgrounds, parks and recreational areas to be available close to the homes in order to provide universal leisure time and fresh air.

She was passionate about opportunities for the poor, the availability of open spaces and instilling a sense that there is a way out of poverty and the slums. Hardworking, inspirational and immovable in her mission, Octavia became one of the three founders of The National Trust, a institution in our modern world.

A truly inspiring woman who proved with hope, determined and imagination, anything is possible.

Be inspired!
