Hi Victoria! It's so fabulous to welcome you to my blog and to be a part on your tour with Rachel's Random Resources for THE SECRET TO FALLING IN LOVE - I'm looking forward to learning more about you, your work and your latest release. Let's kick things off with my questions...
1.)
What did you want to be when you grew up?
Funnily enough, a writer. From a very young age I’d
always loved reading and when I discovered people actually wrote books for a
living, I was amazed. As I got older I was attracted to business and marketing,
thinking writing wasn’t for people like me. Then one day, I reached a point in
my life where I was fortunate enough to have the time and stability to give it
a go and I haven’t looked back since.
2.)
Coffee, tea or hot chocolate?
Coffee – for survival and general day-to-day
awakedness (yes that’s a word I made up).
Hot chocolate – for a lovely winter treat, especially
when watching a Christmas movie.
Tea – to conjure up a bout of nausea (or the devil if
it has milk in too).
3.)
What genre do you typically read? Why?
I love romantic comedies and chicklit. The light-heartedness,
wit and humour are a perfect mix for relaxing and switching off. I do love a
thriller though too and am partial to the odd Vampire book.
4.)
Share a favourite childhood memory.
It’s a bit of a cliché, but I’d have to say Christmas
morning during the magical ‘Father Christmas’ years. My sister and I would
always go to bed with the ‘will he or won’t he’ fear. We could never get to
sleep and always woke up at the crack of dawn to see* if he’d been before
waking up our parents.
5.)
Do you have any shameless addictions? ie. Tea, Books,
Shoes, Clothes?
I’m a little bit addicted to Haribo Gold Bears and I’m
ashamed to say; I eat them until my tummy hurts.
6.)
What do you think is the biggest challenge of writing
a new book?
Not fully knowing your characters
that well in the early stages. It’s great to go back over those early chapters
once you do, and tweak the actions and dialogue to fit once you fully
understand them. Planning a character out on paper is one thing but bringing
them to life is another and whilst it’s a challenge to keep consistent, it’s
also lots of fun.
7.)
Do you aim for a set amount of words/pages a day?
Yes, but the target varies depending upon when I need
to finish it by. I use the Pacemaker website to give me daily targets to fit
with my deadlines and my daily targets usually range between 800-1500 words per
day. Some days I can power through 5000 and get ahead, and on other days, I can
fail to switch my laptop on. Pacemaker adjusts the goal for you every time you
update the wordcount.
8.)
What are your thoughts on writing a book series?
I’ve never done it. There were a
few bloggers and readers who asked (demanded?) a sequel to The Holiday Cruise
and whilst I had a few ideas, there is nothing in the pipeline yet.
The Secret
to Falling in Love
Lifestyle journalist and thirty-something singleton Melissa
hashtags, insta's and snapchats her supposedly fabulous life on every social
media platform there is.
That is until she wakes up on her birthday, another year older and
still alone, wondering if for all her internet dates, love really can be found
online? The challenge: go technology free for a whole month!
Forced to confront the reality of her life without its perfect
filters, Melissa knows she needs to make some changes. But when she bumps into
not one, but two gorgeous men, without the use of an app, she believes there
could be hope for love offline.
If
only there was a way to choose the right guy for her…
Author Bio – Victoria Cooke grew up in the city of Manchester before crossing the
Pennines in pursuit of a career in education. She now lives in Huddersfield
with her husband and two young daughters and when she’s not at home writing by
the fire with a cup of coffee in hand, she loves working out in the gym and
travelling. Victoria was first published at the tender age of eight by her
classroom teacher who saw potential in a six-page story about an invisible man.
Since then she’s always had a passion for reading and writing, undertaking
several writers’ courses before completing her first novel, 'The Secret to
Falling in Love,' in 2016.
