Hi Rosie! Welcome to my blog - I love all books set in the theatre and THE THEATRE OF DREAMS has been added to my 'to be read' pile! Let's kick things off with my questions...
What is the strangest
talent you have?
It would be wonderful to have a unique talent but sadly there is nothing
I can do out of the ordinary. I suspect my other half would say I am very good
at fabricating scenarios when I don’t know the entire facts of a situation –
but I think that’s natural for a writer. We like to speculate.
2. What is the best
Halloween costume you’ve ever worn?
I’ve been a witch and a devil (haven’t we all) but these days I’ve hung
up my broomstick.
3. Are the titles of your
books important?
Definitely. The title has to make an impact but it also has to reflect
the content. I had the title for my novel The Theatre of Dreams as soon as I
came up with the plotline - three characters, each with a different motive,
united by a desire to save an old theatre and ultimately fulfil their own
personal ambitions and dreams. What else could I call it?
4. If you’re struggling
with a scene or difficult character, what methods help you through it?
I go for a run or a long walk. Switching off and heading outside always
seems to help the thought process. Even just getting up from my desk and doing
the ironing can sometimes lead to that stroke of inspiration that fixes a plot.
As I’m a complete pantser characters may go through several transformations before
I settle on a final persona – when they start talking to me, that’s when I know
I’ve got it right.
5. Do you prefer dog, cats
or none of the above?
Cats. I have a six year old black and white cat called Ed. He’s my third
cat and by far the one with the sweetest temperament. Our last cat was a feisty
female killer cat. Ed is a big softie in comparison.
6. Who’s your favourite
author? Why?
I am a huge fan of Joanne Harris – especially her early works such as
Chocolat, Coastliners and Five Quarters of the Orange. I love the images her
writing evokes and the magic she weaves through her storylines.
7. Do you have a pet peeve?
No, I’m very easy going.
8. Do you remember your
dreams when you wake up in the morning?
Only very briefly. Sometimes when I’m in that semi-conscious is-it-really-time-to-get-up phase I try
to delve back in, but it never works.
The
Theatre of Dreams
The Theatre of Dreams is a heart-warming
story of new beginnings. Set in a fictional south coast resort, a devious
octogenarian recruits a disgraced actress and a bankrupt architect to play a
part in an elaborate plot to save a historic seaside pavilion from demolition.
Blurb
Musical theatre actress Tara is down on her luck and
in desperate need of a job. When terminally-ill octogenarian Kitty
invites her to take over the running of her former dance academy in the
old-fashioned resort of Hookes Bay, Tara thinks she’s found her guardian angel. But it soon becomes very clear Kitty is being far from benevolent. Too late, Tara realises helping Kitty will signal the end of an
already tarnished career, unless she can pull off the performance of a
life-time.

Rosie Travers
I grew up on the south coast of England and after initially training as a secretary I juggled a career in local government with raising my family. I moved to Southern California with my husband in 2009 and began a blog about life as an ex-pat wife which re-kindled a teenage desire to become a writer. On my return to the UK I took a part-time course in creative writing and following some success in short story competitions, I joined the Romantic Novelists Association New Writers’ Scheme. My debut novel, The Theatre of Dreams, was accepted for publication by Crooked Cat Books and officially launched on in August 2018. My second book, Your Secret’s Safe With Me, will follow next year.
