As you have probably guessed, I am a huge fan of British history (especially royal history) and read historical non-fiction equally as much as I do fiction - in fact, sometimes the scale tips more towards the non-fiction!
One of my favourite things to do is attend at least two to three history festivals each year and have the opportunity to listen to talks give by some of the historians and authors whose work I love and admire. After all, these are the people who inspired me to start studying for a history degree in 2022 (I will complete it in 2027) so that I might one day write a historical non-fiction book of my own.
Last weekend I attended my first festival of the year - the Gloucester History Festival where talks and signings took place in the wonderful Blackfriors Priory.
I first listened to a talk with historians Gareth Russell and Lucy Hughes-Hallet about King James I and his famous favourite, George Villiers, Duke of Buckingham. This was then followed by a fabulous talk by historian Hallie Rubenhold about the infamous Doctor Crippen and the murder he committed in 1910. I highly recommend you check out these authors' latest books - I have bought all three...
So, which festival will I be going to next? Well, that will be the Harvington History Festival in July - hope to see you there! Tickets: https://harvingtonhall.digitickets.co.uk/category/61089
