1.)
What genre do you typically read? Why?
I
typically read romance novels because I’m a big fan of happily-ever-afters. I
first fell in love with the genre when I read a Danielle Steel novel in high
school. Her writing captures the true essence of escapism. Romance novels
aren’t just love stories. These books have intricate plotlines about exciting
places that explore complex feelings and emotions. The best part about reading
this genre is the undeniable feeling of hope readers experience about finding
true love one day.
2.)
Share a favourite childhood memory.
My
family’s weekly visit to the local library is one of my fondest childhood
memories. My Mother shared her love of reading with my brothers and me early
on. I grew up in a coastal town in New Jersey, and the library was, and still
is, the heartbeat of the community. I used to fill a tote bag with stories by
Beatrix Potter and Laura Ingalls Wilder. I also loved reading Nancy Drew
Mysteries and Encyclopedia Brown. Whenever I walk into a library, I feel at
home.
3.)
Do you have any shameless addictions? ie. Tea, Books, Shoes, Clothes?
My
shameless addition is paint-by-numbers kits. I am not artistic by any means. I
can’t draw or paint beautiful landscapes, but I can match the number to a paint
color. It is a relaxing way to unwind while listening to a podcast, music, or
audiobook after a busy day.
4.)
What do you think is the biggest challenge of writing a new book?
The
biggest challenge of writing a new book is outlining the story. I like ironing
out the book's significant plotlines at the get-go to have a viable framework.
Then, I develop the characters and define the romantic relationship. Lastly, I
go back and fill in the story with secondary plotlines and characters.
5.)
Do you aim for a set amount of words/pages a day?
What
works best for me is setting aside a certain amount of time each day to write.
If the story flows on that day, I celebrate the number of words I have written.
I find this takes the pressure off of me to hit a certain daily number. I feel
more creative and not so restricted.
6.)
What are your thoughts on writing a book series?
I
love writing series. My entree into the publishing world began with the Piper
O’Donnell Social Lite mystery series—Par
for the Course, Country Clubbed,
and Murder by the Minutes. Currently,
I am writing the Gull Island sweet romance series—Serendipity by the Sea, Serenity
by the Sea, and Simplicity by the Sea.
I have a fondness for recurring characters and familiar locales. Writing a
series is like visiting with an old friend. It gets sweeter with time.
