Millionaire Benjamin Guggenheim was briefly featured in the 1997 film adaptation, Titanic, for his help and generosity in assisting others and his eventual calm surrender in which he accepted his fate. Having helped women and children to board lifeboats, Guggenheim and his valet Victor Giglio returned to their cabins and dressed in evening wear. They were seen sitting near the Grand Staircase at the end, sipping brandy and smoking cigars as they sedately awaited death.
Isador Straus was the co-owner of New York's famous department store, Macy's - he was returning to America with his wife of 41 years, Ida after spending the winter in Europe. Having refused to leave on a lifeboat without her husband, Ida gave her fur coat to her maid insisting she make a bid for survival.
