Keeping The Faith After Rejection...

I think the most common questions asked of authors is 'Where do you get your ideas from?'. the second (in my experience!) is 'How do keep going after receiving rejection after rejection?'

What I like about this question is. 1) whoever asked it understands rejection is a guaranteed part of a writer's career and 2) they don't want to give up on their writing aspirations. After all, if they had given up, they would want hints and tips of getting back on the horse...so to speak!

Writing is as much about opportunity, luck and learning as it is about talent. Read that again.

If you are an aspiring writer - or even a seasoned writer - rejection is forever hovering over you with each new book or project. There is no escaping it. As soon as you have the courage to press the 'submit' button, you have opened the door for rejection...you have also simultaneously opened the door for acceptance.

And it is THAT that keeps me and every other writer (I imagine!) going - in order to keep the faith that your submission will result in a yes, rather than no, you have to:

1) Submit your work in the first place

2) Trust the universe, God, spirit, whatever you choose to call it, to take care of it (and you) and move onto your next project.

That's it, them's the rules!

The one thing I can tell you right here and now, if you are an aspiring writer with big, wild dreams of success, the first and most important thing is to see a body of work through to completion and the second is to submit it to an agent or publisher. Several agents and publishers actually :)

So, what are you waiting for? Get your fingers to the keyboard and press 'submit'...You've got this!
