Why Do I Write??

Earlier this week someone asked me why I write and I realised I had never been asked this question before!

Plenty of people have asked me HOW I write, WHAT I write, WHEN I write, WHERE I write but never WHY I write.

Could it be because people assume writers write because it's their calling and there doesn't have to be any other reason behind than that? If yes, then I suppose they are right...to a point.

I have many, many writer friends and the when and why we started on this mad, crazy often exhausting journey, is always slightly different for each of them. Yet, the fundamental reason is that we had no choice! I was around the age of seven or eight and had just discovered Enid Blyton's Secret Seven series. That was when I told myself that one day I would be a published writer and give others joy just like these books gave me.

That philosophy is still top of mind whenever I sit down to work on my current work in progress - my first priority is to produce a story that will have the same escapism value, the same feeling of being transported to a different time and place for the person reading it. I want to give readers the chance to step away from their reality for however long they can and immerse themselves in a safe, enjoyable, suspenseful and romantic tale that leaves them in a happier place than when they started reading.

I LOVE writing and it would be unfair of me to say it is the job the same as any other - that isn't true. At least, not all the time. There are moments when it can feel like the hardest job in the world...but there are other times when writing is pure joy and I feel blessed that I am paid for doing what I love.

So back to the question of WHY I write...I write for YOU, dear readers. There is no two ways about it, I write in the hope of bringing you happiness, romance and possibility!

Happy Reading...
