Introducing the heroes & heroines of A Shop Girl's Christmas & A Shop Girl At Sea...

Last Wednesday I introduced the heroes and heroines of the first two books in the Pennington's series, A Shop Girl In Bath and A Shop Girl Gets The Vote - this week it's the heroes and heroines of A Shop Girl's Christmas and A Shop Girl At Sea...

A Shop Girl's Christmas

Cornelia Culford - The book opens with Cornelia facing her upcoming divorce hearing, a terribly difficult circumstance for any woman in the early 20th century. She and her two young sons are living with Cornelia's brother and she is working at Pennington's trying to keep her head above water. As the story progresses, Cornelia gathers strength in her confidence and when she meets a Scotland Yard detective, her true strength comes to the fore as they join forces to hunt a killer...

Cornelia is a true heroine in every sense of the word and one of my favourite characters throughout the series.

Stephen Gower - A Scotland Yard detective, Stephen is battling his guilt over the deaths of two women in London for which he blames himself. He returns to his hometown of Bath as the Yard carries out an internal investigation of whether or not Stephen was in any way negligent in his duties. He finds temporary work at Pennington's but all too soon, his professional life as a detective is called into action by Joseph Carter, one of the owner's of Pennington's.

A Shop Girl At Sea

Amelia Wakefield - Amelia is Pennington's head window dresser and, due to events in her past, struggles with a huge lack of self-confidence. When Elizabeth Pennington asks her to board the Titanic to find out what New York's department stores are displaying and marketing, Amelia is terrified but accepts the challenge. Little does she know how much the trip will become a life-changing event in more ways than she could ever have imagined...

Samuel Murphy - As one of my favourite heroes, Samuel is a man with a huge heart and sense of right and wrong. He manages to get a position as a seaman on the Titanic and embraces the opportunity as a time to reflect on his home life and future. When he meets Amelia he is struck by her sadness but underlying fire and they spend more and more time together. Then the fated ship hits an iceberg...
