This month's review is for Closed Casket by Sophie Hannah.
As a huge fan of Agatha Christie, I love that Sophie Hannah has taken up the baton to continue giving us new Hercule Poirot mysteries.
Closed Casket is the second of Hannah's novels writing in the style of Agatha Christie, and is equally as good as the first, The Monogram Murders.
This second book takes place in the mansion of Lady Athelinda Playford in Ireland. She has summoned Poirot and Inspector Edward Catchpool of Scotland Yard to a gathering...and they have no idea why. Intrigued, both duly arrive, only to witness Lady Playford announce at dinner that she has changed her will, disinheriting her children and leaving everything to her faithful secretary...who only has weeks to live.
When the secretary is murdered, Poirot and Catchpool are on the case to reveal the killer, his or her motive and what would make someone to risk the rope by murdering a man who was already living on borrowed time.
A fabulously devised plot, the incomparable Poirot and the classic country house setting delivers a Hannah/Christie novel that doesn't disappoint.
Happy Reading!
