Inspire Me!

This week's Inspire Me! post is about businesswoman, writer and TV personality, Martha Stewart.

It could be fair to say Martha Stewart became prominent in the minds of people in the UK during her trial and subsequent incarceration. Found guilty of conspiracy, obstruction of an agency proceeding and making false statements to the FBI, all triggered by her decision to sell stocks upon receipt of non-public information from her broker. Stewart went on to serve 5 months in prison, followed by house arrest. This happened from the end of 2004 to the spring of 2005.

So, you might be thinking what is inspiring about that? Well, it's not her brief, yet dire, brush with the law that I focus on when I think of Martha Stewart. I think of a young woman who went from modelling at a young age through to modelling for Chanel, through to learning to cook, sew and garden from her grandparents and make millions from passing on her knowledge, skills, charisma and smile to millions of men and women all over the world.

Her career was a solid and profitable empire before she was imprisoned and, after her release, she managed to gather all her previous drive, strategy and determination to re-launch herself and wipe clean her reputation.

Anyone who can forge a successful career, make mistakes, pay the price, brush themselves off and start all over again AND make a success once more, has my admiration and someone I'd like to learn from.

What does Martha's spirit look like? What is her mindset? What demons does she fight? Possibly on a daily basis. Something to think about...

Happy Inspiration Day!
