What did you want to be when you grew up?
A musician, I was pretty determined to be a classical musician I played cello, clarinet and saxophone while I was at school and I studied music theory as well.

Tea, herbal teas mostly I have a whole cupboard full of them.

What genre do you typically read? Why?
I’m torn between romance and fantasy. Romance because I love feeling like there is hope and love in the world even when real life feels pretty hopeless. Fantasy because I love the fact anything is possible and well dragons, dragons are always a winner for me.

Share a favourite childhood memory.
Sitting on my bed and cracking open The Hobbit for the very first time, I lost a whole day reading that book for the first time just curled up on my bed, it was the first adult fantasy novel I read when I was 12 and taught me a lot about what I wanted from books going forward.

Funko Pop’s I love them, books although who
doesn’t right? Band tees, I can’t help myself I have to have them.

What do you think is the biggest challenge of writing
a new book?
For me it’s dialogue, I get into the flow of writing pretty easily but I struggle with dialogue so I need to take time to ensure that my characters don’t sound like wooden sticks.

Do you aim for a set amount of words/pages a day?
Not really, usually I try to get a chapter complete per day but I’m more of a feel it and see writer so I just go with how I feel.

What are your thoughts on writing a book series?
Well my book is part of a series so I’m obviously pro series. I think writing them is a bit like reading them it will come down to personal preference some authors won’t dig it at all while it’s all others will write. Mine is a series but with different main characters in each book so it keeps it quite fresh for me.

About Claire Ayres: Claire lives in Bristol, UK and has taken her
inspiration from the people and the places she has seen over the years. She
always has a book close at hand and devours Fantasy and Romance like some
devour chocolate! Claire loves a happily ever after followed by lots of bloody
sword-fighting and dangerous dragons! But when writing her debut novel
Entrapped drew on her childhood ambition to be a musician and one of the
instruments she played and still loves as a centre-point.
