1.)
What did you want to be when you grew up?
I wanted to be a screenplay writer because I
thought I could write better endings to the television shows and movies I
watched. I also wanted to create a line of all-natural cosmetics, but my
freshman year organic chemistry course changed my mind about that!
2.)
Coffee, tea or hot chocolate?
Tea (iced and unsweetened) is my favorite.
3.)
What genre do you typically read? Why?
I read sweet contemporary romance. I enjoy
heartwarming stories that tug at my emotions, and that’s the genre I’ve found
that does it best.
4.)
Share a favourite childhood memory.
When I was little, we had an artificial
Christmas tree. My mom decided to set it up while my dad was at work, and she
had my younger sister and I help. You had to stick the branches into
color-coded holes. Sounds easy, right? Well, the three of us were on a mission
to have it done before my dad got home from work. We were so focused and
working quickly to put those branches in, none of us realized that my mom had
put the center piece in the wrong way so the tree was upside down. We’d just
finished when my dad walked in. It was so obvious when you stepped back and
looked, but not of us had. Needless to say, lots of laughter and something we
still joke about to this day.
5.)
Do you have any shameless addictions? ie. Tea, Books,
Shoes, Clothes?
Books, of course. Disney and Star Wars, too. My
husband would say I’m also addicted to totes, bags, purses, etc. What can I
say? I need something to carry my books in!
6.)
What do you think is the biggest challenge of writing
a new book?
Getting started. The first three chapters
always take me the most time because I’m trying to get to know the characters
and make sure their conflicts/motivations will work.
7.)
Do you aim for a set amount of words/pages a day?
I try, but I don’t always succeed. I found this
app called the Wordcount Dashboard that I use to tell me how many words I need
to write. The app keeps me on track because it recalculates the word count
needed each day based on what you’ve done to reach your deadline. Best $1.99
I’ve spent on a writing tool!
8.)
What are your thoughts on writing a book series?
I write series that are standalones (i.e. different
couples in each story.) I love writing them because it lets me revisit
characters and settings. I’ve found it hard to say goodbye to certain couples
when I reach “The End” and this gives me a way of checking in again even though
it’s very brief.

Melissa's Latest Release:
Keep your competition close…and your heart even closer.
When Nevada Parker travels to Marietta, Montana, she anticipates enough peace and quiet to finish her PhD dissertation. Cupidville turns out to be anything but quiet. In fact, it looks like Valentine’s Day—her least favorite holiday—exploded all over the small town.
Among the sea of red hearts, “Be Mine” signs, and pink, pink, pink, Nevada spots a flyer for a multi-day race called The Valentine Quest. The grand prize—a luxury tropical vacation—would be the perfect welcome-home gift for her brother who’s leaving the military.
Dustin Decker sure could use a break from giving city slickers sleigh rides. Even with a bum knee from his bull-riding days, the race’s grand prize is as good as his—until he realizes he needs a partner if he wants to win.
He makes a strategic pact with the prim, bookish Nevada. But with a kiss, their unlikely alliance turns into something more…and soon, racing isn’t the only thing on their minds. As the finish line nears, they must decide if the grand prize is worth more than what they’ve found together…or if one of them will walk away empty handed—and brokenhearted.
