Hi Susan! So great to welcome you back to my blog to celebrate the release of your latest novel, RETURN OF THE CHRISTMAS SPIRIT! Wishing you lots of success and sales - let's kick off with my questions...
1.
What do you wish men understood about women?
Crikey, how long have you got? If I had
to choose just one thing, I would say, sometimes we just want to talk to them,
tell them things. We don’t want them to offer a solution. We don’t need them
necessarily to fix things, just listen!
2.
Do you only work on one book at a time?
Generally, yes, but
I did stop writing What If in 2013 to
write The Christmas Spirit and I’ve
now written Return of the Christmas
Spirit, and only now will I return to What
If.
3.
Who is your favorite fictional couple?
There are probably
others which aren’t springing to mind right now, but I can’t see past Mark
Darcy and Bridget Jones. Colin Firth has a lot to answer for!
4.
Do you have a favorite quote that sums up how you feel about
life?
When one door closes, another one opens.
5.
Do you set daily writing goals? Word count? Number of
chapters? Do you get a chance to write every day?
I do, generally, but now with
two children, aged 9 months and two and a half, I have to be more realistic. I
used to try to write 1000 words a day, but when I was writing Return of the Christmas Spirit I had to
escape to cafés and hotels quite a bit to write, so I geared my goals more
towards, ‘I must reach chapter X by the end of the day’. No, I don’t write
every day. In addition to tending to the needs of my two cherubs, I have a
proofreading, editing and translation company and that takes up a lot of my
time. I’m still trying to find the right work/life balance. Aren’t we all?!
6.
What do you like better, Twitter or Facebook?
Why?
Twitter. I am rubbish at Facebook! I have traditionally spent a
lot more time on Twitter, and most of my book sales initially came via Twitter
readers, so I think I quite rightly have more affinity with it.
7.
What are you working on now?
Well, right now the
launch of Return of the Christmas Spirit,
but come the New Year, I will get back to writing What If and find a tiny pocket of time per day (New Year’s
resolution!) to write, with the hope of releasing it late 2016/early 2017.

Christmas is just around the
corner when Star begins working at Butterburn library, but not everyone is embracing
the spirit of the season.
Sixteen-year-old Arianna’s mock
exams are looming and she’s feeling under pressure. With her father living
abroad and her mother working three jobs, she doesn’t have much support at
home.
The bank is threatening to
repossess Evan’s house, and he has no idea how he’s going to get through
Christmas with two children who are used to getting everything they want.
Patricia’s cliché of a husband,
after 23 years of marriage, has announced he’s moving out of the family home, and
moving in with his secretary.
Daniel is doing the work of three
people in his sales job, as well as looking after his kids and his wife. Pulled
in too many different directions, he’s feeling stressed out.
Can Star, the library’s Good
Samaritan, help set them on the path to happiness this Christmas?

ReplyDeleteAbsolutely agree with your 'just listen' comments! I know guys are trying to help when they leap up to fix whatever-it-is for us, but sometimes that just isn't the point!
