Welcome Harper Impulse author, Zara Stoneley...

Welcome to my blog, Zara! Looking forward to finding out more about you and your work - let's get started with my interview...

1.    What do you wish men understood about women?

It’s probably better if we remain a mystery! Okay, sometimes the differences between men and women can drive me round the bend, but everybody is different, aren’t they? I’ve always worked in male dominated jobs (until now) – at school I studied maths and sciences at ‘A’ level, and so was surrounded by boys, then at University I went for Computer Science and was one of four females, and then I worked in IT. I love men, I like working with men – although I’ve never quite got their fascination with gadgets and spreadsheets, just like they probably don’t get a lot of women things!

2.    Do you only work on one book at a time?

Usually. The books I’m working on at the moment have lots of characters and are quite complex to plan as there are so many different strands to tie in together. I couldn’t cope with another book at the same time! Although at the end of last year I did break off from writing my current book for a while as I was asked to contribute to a Movember charity anthology.

3.    Who is your favorite fictional couple?

That’s a tricky one! I like any couple that spark off each other, and can make each other laugh. I used to watch a TV programme called ‘Moonlighting’ years ago (anybody remember it?) – and I loved Maddie and David J

4.    Do you have a favorite quote that sums up how you feel about life?

Live and let live. I hate the idea that people think they can dictate how somebody else should live their life, and people can be so judgmental and critical – we owe it to ourselves to try and live the life we want, and chase our dreams, even if not everybody else agrees with them. I’m lucky in that my OH is a ‘go for it’ type of guy, if I believe in something then he’ll support me, however batty I might seem!

5.    Do you set daily writing goals? Word count? Number of chapters? Do you get a chance to write every day?

I try to write at least a small amount each day, but I do have other commitments so Monday and Thursday are my main writing days. I do set a goal at the beginning of the week as deadlines soon creep up! I aim for a minimum of 5000 words in a week, but if I know I’ve got a fairly interruption free week I’ll go for 10,000. Some weeks though I spend more time on planning and so the actual word count is much lower – it does really depend on where I’m up to in the book, and what else is going on!

6.  What do you like better, Twitter or Facebook? Why?

At the moment I’m spending more time on Facebook, but I tend to switch between the two – a few months ago I spent far more time on Twitter! Twitter can seem a bit ‘hit and run’ at times, FB can be more chilled and chatty. I’ve just signed up for Tsu, but it’s still a bit of a mystery to me.

7.    What are you working on now?

Right now I’m putting the finishing touches to the follow up book to Stable Mates. It’s called ‘Country Affairs’ and will be published in May. Lottie’s life gets even more complicated when she’s called on to shoulder her family responsibilities – and an unexpected visitor comes to Tippermere (and he’s very dishy!).

‘Fans of Fiona Walker will love this book’ - ThatThingSheReads

Welcome to tranquil Tippermere, an idyllic village nestled deep in the Cheshire countryside. Home to lords and ladies, horsemen and farmers, and plenty of secrets and scandals…

Leaving a scumbag ex behind her, Lottie Brinkley has hotfooted it out of Spain and back home to the country in serious need of some flirtatious fun to soothe her aching heart.

Luckily for her she’s spoilt for choice with not one but three eligible bachelors offering a steamy romp in the hay! But faced with the attentions of roguish eventer Rory Steel, the smiling Irish eyes of hunky farrier Mick O’Neal, and mysterious newcomer Tom Strachan, how can she possibly choose?

When billionaire landowner Marcus James drops dead unexpectedly, his WAGish wife Amanda threatens to sell the heart of the village and sets her sights on Tom! It seems things are heating up for little Tippermere… both in and out of the saddle.

What readers are saying …
'A delightful romp peppered with humour, sadness, scandal and steamy sex.'

'...reminded me of Jilly Cooper whose books I grew up with. Stable Mates is up there with Riders and Rivals. If you loved these books then you will love this one'
