Hi JM! Great to have a friend here visiting awhile - I am so glad we get to talk regularly through social media and our shared places at the Blue Ridge Literary Agency. Wishing you lots of success and sales with your latest release, WHATEVER IT TAKES! Let's start the interview...
1)
What kind of music do you like?
I like a
little bit of everything. Linkin’ Park, Daughtry, Pink, The Eagles, Josh
Groban. Whatever moves me when I listen to it.
2)
Describe your dream home…
Big
kitchen, lots of counter space and an island in the middle, with an attached
dining room. Four bedrooms, so I can convert one to a home office, and a four
car garage for my car guys. Big back yard for the dogs. Oh, and as long as
we’re dreaming, I’d like it sitting on a private beach. lol
3)
Favorite literary hero & heroine?
Oh geez.
This one’s hard. Jamie Frazer from Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander for the hero. Or Win
Fairchild from Vonnie Davis’ Those Violet Eyes. Not sure I have a favorite
heroine. I can’t think of one that really stands out in my mind. I don’t relate
too well to most heroines. For me, reading is an escape, a chance to live
someone else’s life, you know? So, I’m kind of looking for that fantasy aspect.
So for me, it’s more about living through her for the hero. ;)
4)
What are you reading now?
At the
moment, I’m reading something naughty. ;) Desired by Stacey Kennedy. Though
there are no less than a half dozen books on my kindle app all waiting for me.
lol I don’t read much when I write, but now that I’m done with my latest, I
took a bit of a break and am just now diving into my TBR pile.
5)
What did you do on your last birthday?
I never
really do much on my birthday. We usually go out to dinner and do the cake
thing, but that’s pretty much it. I don’t like a lot of fanfare. Makes me
uncomfortable. Dinner with the family makes me happy. :)
6)
What comes first, plot or characters?
Characters,
always. Though the series I just finished was a bit of both. I had the idea for
the first book and planned the series around it. First time I’ve ever plotted
anything. lol
7)
Do you ever suffer from writer’s block?
All the
time. Usually when I’m getting in my own way and not letting the story tell
itself. Taking a few days off usually helps. If it doesn’t, then forcing myself
to write until the muse finally gives in and plays nice usually works. Though
sometimes it’s a matter of reworking a scene until that one spot my characters
tell me I’ve flat out veered off course. lol
8)
Do you ever want to be someone else?
Who?
I used
to, but not anymore. The older I get, the more I’ve come to like who I’ve
become. I’ve grown comfortable with myself, so I stopped wishing I was someone
else a long time ago.
9)
Tell us about your latest book?
My latest
release is Whatever It Takes, book two of my Morgan Family Romance series. Book
one was Kyle’s story. This one is his sister, Becca’s story. The blurb will
tell you the basic premise, so I’ll just tell you this. I had so much fun
writing this book. Becca is my first spunky heroine. She’s a third degree black
belt who isn’t afraid to push back, and Jackson is by far my most romantic
hero. He has a wicked sense of humor, and he loves pushing Becca’s buttons. He
loves riling her up, because she’s strong enough to push back. Made for some
great fireworks between these two.
10)
What’s next for you?
My agent
and I are getting ready to start finding a home for a four book series I just
finished. The stories are a lot spicier than I normally write. It originally
began as an attempt to write erotic. I’d always wanted to try my hand at it,
but by the time I finished with book 1, an entire series had opened up. What I
ended up with was my usual emotion intensity, but with the heat cranked up. I
have to tell you, I had a blast writing them. I let my imagination take me. It
was really very freeing. Each story revolves around an auction, a “dates for
charity” kind of thing. Like a bachelor auction, except the fourth book ended
up being a bachelorette auction.
Blurb:
She’s been dying to hear the
words…
Walking away from her husband was the hardest thing Becca
Morgan has ever done, even if it was the only way to save her heart from being
broken by a loveless marriage. Still, when a terrible accident forces her to
stay at her ex’s house, emotions she thought she’d buried for Jackson Kade long
ago start coming to the surface—and, to her surprise, seem to be reciprocated…
…he just doesn’t know how to
say.
Jackson Kade has never known love like he knew with Becca,
but his cold upbringing left him unable to show her how deeply he feels. When
Becca winds up under his roof once more, he knows it’s his only opportunity to
prove his devotion—and passion. But old habits die hard, and even one mistake
could shatter their last chance at love…
Excerpt:
“What are
you afraid of, Jack?” She stiffened her spine and stood straighter. “That you
might actually feel something?”
As
quickly as he’d shut her out, he pivoted and stalked across the deck toward
her. She took a step back, but in a few long strides, he reached her, seized
her waist, and dragged her against him. As her body hit his, a gasp escaped,
but she could only stare at him, stunned. A war raged in the depths of his
eyes. More emotion than she remembered seeing there in a long time. Desire,
anger, pain, frustration, all fighting for supremacy.
She
braced her hands on his chest, to push him away, but his head dipped down, his
lips brushing over hers, the barest of kisses.
“Or else I
may do something I’m pretty sure you’ll hate me for in the mornin’.” The low
huskiness of his voice washed over her like a heated caress, sending shivers
down her spine, and obliterating whatever defenses she’d manage to build
against him. “The feel of your hands on me about drove me mad. Do you have any
idea how aroused I am right now? I’m two seconds from picking you up and
carrying you upstairs.”
