BLURB:
Lily Malloy’s life changes forever the night a dark stranger
shows up at her door. She soon finds herself growing increasingly attracted to
this mysterious man. When Lily is forced to rely on him to find her sister
after she goes missing, Lily discovers a secret that could mean life or death.
When Dex’s planet, Jheta, is destroyed, he and his people
travel to Earth for a new home. By chance, he stumbles upon fascinating,
beautiful Lily. Haunted by the truth of his identity, Dex knows he can never
have her. Yet that doesn’t stop his attraction to her. When a threat
jeopardizes the lives of Lily and the Jhetans, Dex must fight to protect them,
even if it means his own life.
EXCERPT:
When Lily finally managed to get
her moment of privacy, she found herself staring at a photo of Dex. She didn’t
know when Shay had taken it, whether it was posed or simply a random moment
captured on film. What she did know was that it was magnificent. The entire
night she found herself glancing at the picture from wherever she was in the
gallery.
It was a rare black and white
shot since Shay loved color photos—a weird thing for a past Goth who used to
adore black and white. In the shot, Dex was lying on the ground with his eyes
closed, leaves and grass surrounding him and dirt smudged on his cheek. Despite
the grayness of the photo, Lily loved how the sunlight hit the hard planes of
his face, giving allure to a raw, animalistic masterpiece.
She nearly reached out her hand
to touch it before she thought of how silly she would look stroking a work of
art. Instead, she took another sip of champagne.
“I don’t understand the appeal of
this photo,” someone stated from behind her.
“Oh?”
“It’s too weak, too inadequate.
This photographer has many stronger pieces. You should gaze at some of those.”
Lily smiled to herself. “I
disagree. This is one of her strongest. This photo displays strength and
vulnerability simultaneously. A rare feat for a photographer to capture them
both.”
“I suppose the next thing you’ll
say is you like it.”
“How could I not? It’s
incredible.”
“There is only one thing I like
about it.”
“What’s that?” Lily wondered.
“The color.”
“It’s black and white.”
“Gray. Like your eyes.”
Lily turned around and sucked in
a hard breath. A man dressed in Armani like couldn’t hold a candle to how Dex
looked in a pair of dark jeans and collared black shirt.
