Welcome Crimson Romance author, Angela Adams...

Hi, Angela and welcome to my blog! I am always thrilled to talk to authors I haven't had the chance to 'meet' yet and I thank you for letting me be a part of your ongoing tour :)

I love your cover! I really think Crimson Romance produce just beautiful books...Shall we get started with the questions??

Hi, Rachel. Thank you for inviting me, and giving me the chance to talk about Magic Moment.

  1. 1) When did you first consider yourself a writer?

I was taking classes at a local community college.  The college had a writing contest each semester.  My second year attending, I won for short fiction.  Although there was a check associated with winning, and I went on to sell that story several years later, it was that initial recognition of winning the award that made me feel like a writer.

  1. 2) What comes first, plot or characters?

Characters. I do a backstory for my characters, hero and heroine, then start with the “what if” and write the novel around the background I created.

  1. 3) Tell us about your latest book?

I had the idea for a hero who is going through life believing he has to be the type of person others want him to be, rather than the person he wants to be.  Chase Donovan is a man who grew up torn between a self-centered, unprincipled father and compassionate, selfless mother.  When we meet Chase, he’s wandering through life.

A colleague of mine, who also has three children, said she wished that her family could live on only her husband’s income.  Since she had to have a full-time job, she mentioned some important milestones she had missed in her kids’ lives.  For example, her oldest daughter took her first steps in day care.  She said she would be happy being a lunch mom at her daughters’ school and going to PTA meetings.

Some of our colleagues scoffed.  I couldn’t see anything wrong with her feelings.  Her sadness over those missed moments kind of tugged at my heart.  Those comments influenced Laura Roberts, a woman who never aspired for a high-power career, but a simple life as a wife and mother.

Bringing the FBI into their lives, and sending the couple on the run, I threw in for twists and turns.  My television viewing is basically police dramas and soap operas.  The most successful romances are the ones littered with suspense.

BLURB:

When the FBI brings Laura Roberts - a quiet, reserved bookkeeper - in for questioning regarding activities at the warehouse where she works, an uneasy Laura resigns her job - only to be attacked by thugs.

Chase Donovan intends to spend a few peaceful days on his boat getting his head together - and finds a woman being assaulted by two men who say his father told them to do it.

Chase doesn’t want to believe his father could hurt anyone. Laura doesn’t understand why she’s a target. Can they learn to work together to discover the truth - before someone dies?

EXCERPT

Traveling on Chase’s boat, the weather influences the couple’s decision to share a bed.  To their unexpected surprise, they enjoy the unexpected accommodation.

He must have assumed she didn‘t want him sleeping in the room with her. “You can’t sleep on the window seat,” she told him. “It’s raining, and the window’s broken. You’re getting wet.”

“I’m fine.” He closed his eyes. A water droplet hit his nose.

“Chase, you can’t sleep on the window seat,” she said, her voice stronger.

“I’m fine.”

“Sleep on the floor.” She tugged the blanket. He tugged back.

“Chase. You’ll get sick.” Why were men so stubborn? “Chase!” The floor was hard, but at least it was dry.

His eyes remaining closed, he waved her away and struggled to stand. Dragging the blanket behind him, he staggered to the bed, plopped down on top of its quilt, and pulled his own covering over him.

She stared at the immovable form that appeared quite comfortable. He hadn’t opened his eyes or lost a minute of slumber. She could sleep on the floor. That idea was quickly scratched. The surface was hard under the soles of her feet. Imagine how stiff a person’s back would feel in the morning. She couldn’t blame Chase for not wanting to sleep on the floor.

Laura slid beneath her neatly arranged covers. This would work for one night. He was on top of the blanket and quilt, and she was beneath. This was an emergency. They were adults.

Lying on her side, her hands tucked beneath the pillow, Laura listened to the droplets tap, tap, tap on the windowpane. She actually enjoyed the sound of rain, found the steady pitter-patter soothing.

“I’m cold,” he said simply.

His weight shifted as he turned and one hard arm looped itself around her waist. Her slim frame stiffened, his movement more surprising than offensive. He pulled her closer, drawing her tightly against his chest.

  4. This sounds like a fun story. I think after you get to know the characters, it makes the story a little easier to write.

    1. When I'm writing, I sometimes think of myself as if I'm the reader. And, as a reader I have to like the characters. I'm glad to see that we share a similar thought. Thank you so much, Carrie, for stopping by and commenting.
