My Monthly Book Review...

This month's book review is for The Other Typist by Suzanne Rindell...

I won this book in a Goodreads giveaway and it wasn't the genre of book I'd usually buy but I am drawn to the Prohibition age and even have notes stored away for a possible book of my own set in that time where both public opinion and politics ran high.

Told in the first person by the book's protagonist, Rose Baker, The Other Typist has the old feel of a Ray Chandler hard-boiled thriller. Mysterious, intriguing with a host of fascinating characters, I was drawn in from the very first page. The air of waiting for the axe to fall runs throughout keeping the reader turning the pages and trying to second-guess what or who is at the centre of the plot.

A very Great Gatsby-esque type novel with vivid, atmospheric description, a beautiful, enigmatic antagonist and a honest, heart on her sleeve narrator...a thoroughly worthwhile read. I'll definitely be looking at Suzanne Rindell's backlist!

Recommended!
