Welcome fellow Wild Rose Press author, Linda Nightingale...

1.)                What did you want to be when you grew up?

I was never very clear on what I wanted to be when I grew up.  I’m still not very clear on the question.  As a child and later as an adult, I wanted to be an accomplished horsewoman. As an adult, I raised the bar to wanting to be able to ride high schooled horses, those that could passage, piaffe and Spanish walk.  I also wanted to be a writer from a very young age, wrote as a teenager, but then didn’t pick up my pen again until I was 40.  I was finally published in 2012.  So, now I am a writer.

2.)                Coffee, tea or hot chocolate? Coffee, please, Joe’s Tall, Dark and Handsome is very good.  I also like a nice cup of Earl Grey after the coffee, and have a pretty little teapot that goes with my dinnerware, Peacock Garden, by 222 Fifth.  They make dinnerware that is a little different.  In the evening, a nice glass of wine helps smooth off the rough edges of a bad day, right?

3.)                What genre do you typically read? I read most genres and also like biographies.  I’d probably have to say that my favorite genres are what I write—paranormal romance and dark fantasy. Why?  I like otherworldly settings and a extraordinary hero or heroine.  I like to play with the theme of immortality.

4.)                Share a favourite childhood memory.  The Andersonville River (before it was included in Hartwell Lake) was a favorite childhood haunt.  I loved climbing onto my dad’s back and jumping into the water.  He’d kneel on the sandy bottom and allow me to climb up.  He was always my hero.  I also liked to stick my head under the hood of a car while he was tinkering with one of ours.  Pretty much being anywhere he was.

5.)                Do you have any shameless addictions? ie. Tea, Books, Shoes, Clothes? At one time, it was Andalusian horses.  I had 13 when we were breeding these fairy tale horses, and I count myself very fortunate to have owned them.  Now, I’m hooked on bling Jewelry. Outragious CZ rings, necklaces, and I have become a big fan of charm bracelets.  My first one I bought to add the Texas State charm I won for winning the SARA Merritt award for I, Lucifer, which will soon be released by The Wild Rose Press as Gylded Wings.

6.)                What do you think is the biggest challenge of writing a new book?  My challenge with any book is the middle, where I stall before gaining momentum for the end. Unfortunately, I have been accused of rushing the ending.  So maybe sometimes that momentum needs to be reined in.

7.)                Do you aim for a set amount of words/pages a day?  No, I write when the mood is right and when time allows.  I have to want to write to be able to achieve anything worthwhile.  Setting demands on myself doesn’t work very well.  Sometimes, like now, with my WIP, I wish I did plot and plan.

8.)                What are your thoughts on writing a book series? I love series, but I find them difficult.  You have to have a great memory or be very organized because of the plot points and character details that must be carried through the series.  I do have one vampire series: Sinners’ Opera, Sinners’ Obsession, and a companion book Cardinal Desires with some of the same characters. I have a prequel to about the hero Morgan D’Arcy in my computer but haven’t finished it because it is tied up with a publisher I’m no longer interested in working with.  Morgan is an English nobleman, a concert pianist, and a vampire.  Morgan D’Arcy: A Vampyre Rhapsody is an anthology of Morgan stories from The Wild Rose Press (not the above-mentioned publisher).

I haven’t mentioned Her General in Gray, my latest release, which is now available at:

Her General in Gray

GENRE: Paranormal Romance

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:
Autumn Hartley purchases Allen Hall at a steal, but the northern lass gets far more than a beautiful plantation in the South Carolina Low Country. The house comes complete with its own ghost, a handsome and charming Civil War General—for the Confederacy. The stage is set for another civil conflict.
John Sibley Allen died in battle from a wound in the back, the bullet fired by the turncoat, Beauregard Dudley. The traitor’s reincarnation is Autumn the Interloper’s first dinner guest. Sib bedevils her date and annoys her with fleeting, phantom touches, certain he can frighten her away as he did previous purchasers. As time marches on, her resident ghost becomes more appealing while her suitor, Beau, pales in comparison. Autumn finds her ability to love didn’t perish in the divorce that sent her south seeking a fresh start.
After over a century in the hereafter, Sib discovers he is falling for none other than the feisty Yankee girl, but what future could a modern woman and an old-fashioned ghost possibly hope for?
EXCERPT
“Stand aside, spook.” Dudley marched into the room, made as if to push past him, but Sib stood his ground. Folding his hands in supplication, he begged the woman he’d wounded to understand. “God knows, Autumn, I didn’t mean to hurt you. The whole ugly thing is his fault.” His finger jutted at Sib. “If he hadn’t challenged me to a duel—”
Grabbing the other man by his knit shirt, Sib prepared to frog march him back the way he’d just come. “She doesn’t want to see you, Dudley. Your very presence is disturbing and harmful.”
“Let her be the judge of that.” Dudley tried to wrest free.
From the bed came a weak cry that froze them in place. “Stop it.  You’re both upsetting me. The two of you in one room mix as well as oil and water. Sib, leave. Beau, stay.”
Sib freed Dudley, turning to gape at Autumn. Why was she ordering him out, siding with, the traitor? The redhead dusted off his clothing and straightened his shirt. His triumphant expression tempted Sib to smash a fist into his mouth, wiping away his gloating smile.  Instead, he offered Autumn a quick bow.
“I’ll be outside the door if you need me.” Why had he given this stranger the power to so damage his feelings? Because she can call me into corporeality? Perhaps, being a ghost wasn’t as bad as he’d thought. That she should take his killer’s side hurt more than he believed possible.
She nodded, refusing to meet the question in his eyes.  He spun on his heel, walked calmly across the room, and closed the door without looking back.
But Sib left a vital part of his heart in that sickroom.
