Welcome romance author, Heatherly Bell...

Welcome, Heatherly! So happy to have you here and to be a part of your ongoing tour - wishing you lots of sales and success - let's start with my questions...

1)   Did you set any goals for 2014?

I’m a terrible goal setter. I don’t like to make hard and fast goals like “will complete four manuscripts this year” because I know life happens. I might get a contract and have extensive revisions (this did happen in 2014, although revisions were not extensive); might final in a contest, catch the eye of an agent (or two) and an editor. This agent or editor might request me to revise and resubmit. Those letters are always very vague in my estimation, which means I will spend time attempting to decipher the meaning while alternatively staring out the window.  Both of these scenarios occurred in 2014, and were unplanned.

For the past two years, I’ve wanted to write and release a Christmas story and it still hasn’t happened. I would not tell anyone to imitate my goal setting “methods”. I’m open to advice.

2)   How long does it take you to write a 50,000-60,000 word manuscript?

It takes me approximately four months from start to revising and polishing. Because I’m a pantser for the most part, most of that time is spent revising.

3)   Tell us about a new author you’ve recently discovered

I recently discovered Tracey Brogan. Crazy Little Thing Called Love made me laugh out loud, always the indication of a winner.

4)   Name two romances you’ve read more than once

 – Susan Wiggs’ The Winter Lodge (Oh, Rourke – swoon!) and Kristan Higgins’ The Best Man.

5)   Tell us about your first car – It was a 1972 Volkswagen baby blue “bug”. I thought it was as cute as a button. The thing was a death trap.

6)   Tell us something you’ve lied about?

Every now and then I’ll get tagged by an author friend on Facebook and asked to type four lines of my work in progress, starting at the seventh line of the seventh page. What I do instead is look for the best four lines I can find, irrespective of the seventh page and seventh line. Am I going to hell for this?

7)   Kissing in public? Yes or no?

Oh yes, absolutely and don’t hold back! What kind of a romance writer would I be if I told you to hold back? I’ll be the smiling woman sitting nearby, taking notes.

BLURB:

What would you do for a second chance with your first love?

Welcome to wine country and the small town of Starlight Hill, California, where the wine flows freely and so does the gossip.

The town has never quite forgiven Ivey Lancaster for leaving their favorite son, Dr. Jeff Garner, when she met a man on an online dating site. But the real truth of her absence is something Ivey doesn't want anyone to know.

When a sudden change of plans forces Ivey to work with her hunky ex, she must keep it professional or risk her heart all over again.

EXCERPT

Jeff led the way, opening doors and making her feel like they were on a real date. She should tell him to stop doing that, but it might be rude. Not to mention that she was rather enjoying it. It reminded her that she hadn’t been on a real date with a real man since—she couldn’t remember.

Giancarlo greeted them. “Dr. Jeff. Ivey. To what do I owe this pleasure?”

Ivey sized him up—blue or pink ribbon? Hard to tell. “It’s not a date,” she blurted out.

“Right,” Jeff added. “Just dinner. I have reservations for two.”

“Follow me,” the gentle Italian said as he walked them to a table near the back.

“Could we have something near the front?” Ivey asked.

Giancarlo then led them to a table in the center of the room. “Would this satisfy?”

“Yes,” Jeff said, holding the chair out for Ivey.

“Sorry, Giancarlo. But we need to be seen,” Ivey said as she took the menu.

“Ah.” Giancarlo leaned in, then whispered. “By whom?”

“By everyone, of course.”

Giancarlo simply smiled and nodded, then walked away. He was the kind of man who never questioned anyone’s quirks, and for that she was grateful.

AUTHOR Bio and Links:

When early onset stage fright dashed dreams of Rock and Roll Hall of Fame status, Heatherly Bell tackled her first book in 2010, and now the people and voices that occupy her head refuse to leave.

She no longer sings unless you count randomly bursting into song to annoy her children (and the dogs).

Heatherly lives in northern California with her family, including two beagles, one who can say ‘hello’ and the other who can feel a pea through several pillows.
