Top five movies that inspired my paranormal romance novel PASSION’S SACRED DANCE

Writers, as you know, are influenced by many things. Sometimes we can see a pair of shoes and write a story about them, sometimes, a song influences a book. In my case, yes, there was a song, but also, I’m somewhat of a movie buff. So it’s never a great surprise to me when I find myself influenced by that medium. So what movies may have had an impact on the creation of my latest paranormal romance novel, PASSION’S SACRED DANCE? Read on.
Number one on the list has to be John Boorman’s EXCALIBUR
Yes, this is my absolute favorite number one movie. Boorman did an awesome job with it and with portraying the Arthurian mythological world. To this day I can quote lines from it. (Ahem… Arthur: “What is our greatest quality of knighthood?”
Quoth Merlin: “Truth! That’s it. Yes, Truth! It must be truth, above all. When a man lies, he murders some part of the world. You should know that….” )
I’m sure that love led directly to my writing of PASSION’S SACRED DANCE.
2. Next up, the TNT mini-series, THE MISTS OF AVALON
Though it’s more a mini-series this movie (and the novel from whence it sprung) likewise poured itself into my love of the Arthurian Legends. The mini-series leaves a lot* of the pagan element of the book out, and wasn’t very well received by fans of the book, but I can add it to the list of influences on PASSION’S SACRED DANCE. Especially of my druid characters. And between this and the aforementioned Excalibur (and the 1969 film Camelot), this is really the closest Hollywood has come to depicting the Celtic myths on screen. This is the closest they’ve come to doing so accurately.
3. I AM LEGEND
Believe it or not, this movie inspired what might happen if the good guys lose the battle in PSD. In fact, the Harshad Wars series wouldn’t exist if it weren’t for this movie. I love every version I’ve seen, from the 1969 movie LAST MAN ON EARTH, the highly underrated 1999 Will Smith version of the title listed in this entry. I’m a geek, what can I say?
4. BRAVEHEART
Well, okay, so it’s the Scots instead of the Celts, but you know, sword-wielding warriors fighting for honor and the woman he loves? What’s not to love?
And last but not least #5: CLAN OF THE CAVE BEAR. Yes, I know it seems like a weird movie to choose as an influence, (and a friend of mine will probably shake her head that I even included it here) but…there is a certain story in PASSION’S SACRED DANCE that wouldn’t exist without it. :)
Honorable mention, I hate to say this but no, HIGHLANDER, alas as much as I love the original movie, had very little influence on PASSION’S SACRED DANCE.
