Welcome historical romance writer, Regan Walker....

Welcome to my blog, Regan! I am looking forward to getting to know more about you and your work - just adore you cover. Beautiful :)

Questions:

1)   Did you set any goals for 2013?

Yes, I did. I want to finish the 3rd in my trilogy, Wind Raven, the Regency sea adventure and start the prequel, To Tame The Wind, the story of Captain Simon Powell and the French pirate’s daughter, Claire Donet.

2)   What is the best part of the writing process for you?

I love the research…diving into the past to find the jewels of history to share with my readers and weave into my love stories. And I love the creative process of creating memorable characters.

3)   The worst part?

I am not a plotter but at some point I have to start structuring the story…the middle is the hardest part. And then, too, creating realistic conflict between the hero and heroine takes a fine hand. It cannot be contrived; it must be “real.”

4)   Tell me where you write?

My writing took over my dining room a few years ago. It’s a large table, now full of my research, promotional materials on my books, my computer (I’m a Mac user), my printer and my supplies. Oh yes, and a huge stack of notes. Ideas come to me at various times and I’ve learned to write them down when I’m away from the computer. My dining room has a sliding door on one side that leads out to a great view and my tangelo tree. When I open the door I can hear birds singing. It’s very nice to write there.

8)   Tell us about a new author you’ve recently discovered

If by “new” you mean new to me, I’d say it was Jan Cox Speas, a classic author whose family is bringing her backlist to eBooks. But I discovered her first novel, Bride of the MacHugh and loved it. It’s a Scottish historical and beautiful written. But if by “new” you mean a new author, I’d say it is the writing team of Patricia McAllister and Fela Dawson Scott, writing as Brit Darby and their book Emerald Prince, a story from 13th century Ireland.

9)   Name two romances you’ve read more than once
Princess of Fire, a William the Conqueror romance by Heather Graham (aka Shannon Drake), and Captain of All Pleasures, a wonderful high seas romance by Kresley Cole. Both are well done and really held my interest.

10)                  Tell us about your first car

Oh, it was really a mistake for me. Not at all what I needed. It was a guy’s car, a souped up Chevy with a big engine and painted electric blue. I loved the power and the look of it, but I didn’t keep it long because it was a gas hog. I sold it and I bought a sports car I kept for many years.

11)                  Where can we find you?

AGAINST THE WIND
By
Regan Walker

BLURB:

A night in London’s most exclusive bordello. Agent of the Crown Sir Martin Powell would not normally indulge, but the end of his time spying against Napoleon deserves a victory celebration. Yet, such pleasure will not come cheap. The auburn-haired courtesan he calls “Kitten” is in truth Katherine, Lady Egerton, a dowager baroness and the daughter of an earl as elusive as she is alluring. She flees a fate worse than death. But Martin has known darkness, too, and he alone can touch her heart—as she has touched his. To the English Midlands they will steal, into the rising winds of revolution.

EXCERPT:

The alcove was clothed in darkness, the only light from one small candle, seeping in below a heavy velvet curtain. Martin held Kit close. Her breath came in pants, her breasts pressed into his chest. Relieved to have her finally back in his arms, it was all Martin could do to not to give his passion free rein. Her familiar scent of roses swirled about his head. God, he’d missed this woman. But when he felt her shiver, the need to protect was the only emotion he allowed himself and he tightened his arms around her in comfort.

“Not dead,” she murmured, her forehead nearly touching his lips.

“No, Kit. You did not kill him. And though I certainly want to see the man dead for what he did to you, I thought it best for your reputation he not be confronted here.”

“You know?” She tilted her head upward, her lips within an inch of his. It was all he could do not to claim them.

AUTHOR INFORMATION:

As a child Regan Walker loved to write stories, particularly about adventure-loving girls, but by the time she got to college more serious pursuits took priority. One of her professors thought her suited to the profession of law, and Regan realized it would be better to be a hammer than a nail. Years of serving clients in private practice and several stints in high levels of government gave her a love of international travel and a feel for the demands of the “Crown” on its subjects. Hence her romance novels often involve a demanding Prince Regent who thinks of his subjects as his private talent pool.

Regan lives in San Diego with her golden retriever, Link, whom she says inspires her every day to relax and smell the roses.
