Welcome Samhain Publishing author, Jenna Bayley-Burke...

So lovely to meet you Jenna and have you stop by as part of your ongoing tour. Really looking forward to learning more about you and your new release. Shall we kick off the interview?

1)   When and why did you decide you wanted to be a published author?

I think I was eight. It never seemed like a possibility until I was trying to find a job that I could do around my babies.

2)   What is the best and worse thing you have learned from an editor/agent?

The best thing I’ve learned from an editor is to trust your voice. Everyone tells a story differently.

3)   Favourite author/s? Vicki Lewis Thompson, Lori Wilde

4)   What is your typical day?

I wish I could say I got up and wrote the morning away, then read all afternoon. But my days revolve around elementary and preschool schedules, ballet and gymnastics, taekwondo and swimming, basketball and Boy Scouts. I end up working during naptime and after they’re in bed.

5)   Who would you cast to play your hero & heroine in a movie?

Joe Manganiello & Khloe Kardashian. I am a visual person, so I’m in love with Pinterest for storyboarding. Want to see the inspiration behind Caribbean Casanova? http://pinterest.com/jbayleyburke/caribbean-casanova/

6)   Did you plan this book? Or write it as it came?

I knew the first three stories in the Under The Caribbean Sun series would be the three Prinsen brothers. I ‘met’ Holly in the first story, Caribbean Christmas, and thought of all the women in the world, she might be the one to tilt his world.

7)   What surprised you the most when you became a published?

The work! I love writing and I love reading. But that’s less than half of my job. Revising, editing, proofing, cover art, promotion, marketing, social media... it takes away from the writing time.

8)   Do you have a dedicated writing space? What does it look like?

When we moved, and office was on the ‘need’ list for both my husband and I. He was done with having me write in the bedroom. I love having a desktop to spread out on. I decorated the walls with my grandmother’s drawings – in art school she hoped to design romance novel covers! Here’s some pics - http://jennabayley-burke.blogspot.com/2010/01/office-space.html

9)                   What’s next for you?

I just finished the third story in the series, Caribbean Crush. I’ve never written a series before, so I’m excited to see how readers receive it.

BLURB:

Of all the islands in all the world, she’s come to his.

Under the Caribbean Sun, Book 2

Holly Hansen has sacrificed too much to let anything—especially a man—get in the way of making her clothing line a success. When she arrives on the island of Anguilla, she zeroes in on the biggest threat to her make-or-break photo shoot. At six-and-a-half foot of sculpted Dutch muscle, Harmannus Prinsen is every inch the womanizer of Caribbean legend, but he will not be seducing any of her models. She knows exactly how to make sure of it. Make the girls think he’s taken.

Harm is stunned when the curvaceous beauty greets him with a mind-numbing kiss. She’s the embodiment of every pin-up portrait he collected as a teen, with a sassy tongue and a body that begs for his touch. Sure, he’ll pretend to be her date…but only if they really date.

Despite her best efforts to remain immune to his charms, Holly finds herself falling for the man behind the myth. She begins to wonder which island she belongs on…Manhattan or Anguilla.

EXCERPT

“So prove me wrong.” Holly refused to back down, though her tummy trembled with trepidation. She’d grown up surrounded by alpha males. Her father, brothers, uncles and cousins had taught her that like feral hunters, men capitalize on the first sign of weakness.

“Don’t do anything to jeopardize this photo shoot, and I’ll give you my heartfelt apologies for misjudging your noble intentions.”

He pushed a hand through his too-long hair, tugging the dark ends that curled against the nape of his neck. “No wonder you and Sassy are partners. You’re as narcissistic as she is.”

She couldn’t hold in the laugh. “I know English isn’t your first language, Prinsen, but you really ought to know the definition of a word before you use it.”

“Funny, you’re acting as if taking pictures of girls in string bikinis is the most important thing to happen to this island since running water. Bigger companies than yours have done shoots here without any of the drama you two bring.”

“You mean like the lingerie shoot two months back where three models got into a catfight on the beach over a certain someone?” Her pulse raced, her body vibrating with adrenaline. She wanted to push him away, keep him from standing that close.

He shrugged his broad shoulders, the honed muscles of his torso rippling like a waterfall. “You believe every trashy morsel of gossip Sassy feeds you?”

AUTHOR Bio and Links:

By day, Jenna is faster than a speeding toddler, stronger than a stubborn husband, able to leap tall Lego structures in a single bound...but by night, while the family sleeps she writes romance novels where no one ever has to scoop up after the dogs, change diapers, clip coupons, drive carpool, do laundry, mop floors, get silly putty out of hair, vacuum, empty the vacuum bag (gross!), exercise, count calories, apply Band-Aids, clean up puke...wait where was this going? Oh, Jenna writes romance because it is glamorous. Just ask the dogs. Catch up with Jenna on

  1. An enjoyable interview! Good to know that other writers have to squeeze in writing around family and other 'must be dones' (the ironing, puke cleaning, etc)! We all lead very busy lives but thank goodness for the novels that provide us with relaxing escapes - whether reading or writing them. Happy blog tour, Jenna! Happy Release Day to Rachel! Xx

  2. Another great excerpt. I can't see Khloe as the heroine, however.

  7. Thanks for having me :)

About Khloe...I needed a tall, strong, curvy, ultra-feminine heroine. So physical inspiration, not personality :) The attitude was more Rachel McAdams in Morning Glory.

  11. I think that always surprised me, the fact that writing is only about 50% of the job.
