Did you set any goals for 2012?
My goal was to find a publisher for All Over the Place, so I got one thing
ticked off at least! I only did my Jillian Michaels exercise DVD about six
times though – maybe I’ll be able to tick that one off for 2013!
What is the best part of the writing process for you?
When the characters take the story and
run, and I’m left racing along in their wake trying to write everything down!
Minds of their own sometimes.
The worst part?
Balancing real life with the other
world inside my head! I’m going around completely distracted most of the time. Oh,
and the way every cup of tea I make goes cold when I’m writing, as I’m so
engrossed I always forget to drink them. I end up with just a mug of brackish
water from so many hot water top-ups!
What is the book you wish you’d written?
Charlotte’s Web. It’s deceptively simple and sweet, but the whole effect is
utterly magical and moving. I re-read it recently and it made me cry again!
Favourite author/s & book/s?
Well, I adore Wuthering Heights. When I was reading it for the first time, I
literally couldn’t sleep at night for thinking about it! Most of my reading
though is women’s fiction and chick lit, with interesting plot lines and a happy
ever after. I do like funny, quirky stories – I’m really looking forward to
Sarah-Kate Lynch’s next book.
Tell us about your latest release?
All Over the Place is fun, feel-good fiction with a chick lit vibe – and a romantic
happy ending, naturally! One lovely reviewer called it “a thoroughly engaging, globe-hopping confection of a novel…an

What is your favourite attribute of the hero and heroine?
There are two guys in the book – and I
don’t want to give away which one Livi ends up with! But one is sexy-cool, and
one is sexy-smart. Both good attributes, I think! I like Livi’s appreciation of
friends and family, and her willingness to strike out in new directions.
What’s next?
The next book! It’s a work in progress,
that I’m enjoying very much. Jillian probably doesn’t stand a chance of being
ticked off the list this year either…
Tell me where you write?
I often write at my vintage scrubbed
pine dining room table. On the wall is a clock with three faces, showing the time
in London, New Zealand and New York. So I write with the sound of three clocks
ticking. You’d think that would make me write faster, but sadly it doesn’t –
mostly it just reminds me which of my friends in far-flung places might be
waking up and ready for a Facebook chat!
Where would you like your career to be in 5 years?
I’m very interested to know what the
publishing industry will look like by then. Whatever happens, there’ll always
be a need for stories. I’d like to have several books out (in any format) and
be working on the next – I have plenty of ideas and I don’t plan on stopping
now!
