The Seduction of Emily coming this week...

With the imminent release of my debut with eKensington (coming April 4th) and the sequel finished and delivered to my agent, I am already considering my next venture into historical romance. So far I have published one full length (The Arrival of Lily Curtis) Victorian romance and one novella (Love's Debt) with The Wild Rose Press as well as signing a two-book Victorian romance contract with eKensington (The Seduction of Emily and its sequel).

I LOVE history and nothing give me more pleasure than watching TV period dramas. With the success of Downton Abbey and the Tudors, not to mention The Borgias, Larkrise to Candleford and Cranford, for the first time since I began writing historical novels, I'm feeling the need to write in a different era than Victorian.

But which one?

Part of me is desperate to write a series set in one of my favourite places in England––Bourton-on-the-Water. I visit this gorgeous village at least four times a year (more if I can drag my family there!), to admire it in the different seasons. It changes all the time and I really couldn't tell you which season makes it more lovely.

The alternative idea that continually comes back to me is to write two linked books about two sisters living in Bristol at the height of the city's slave trade in the mid-1700s. I would love to explore their relationship as the two of them drift for and against this terrible and profitable business.

Decisions, decisions!!

I'm sure one of the two will take over my imagination eventually and I'm excited to see which it is - in the meantime, here is the blurb and buy links for my eKensington debut, The Seduction of Emily. Enjoy!

Seduction is a wicked game, and no one plays it better than the devilish Will Samson in Rachel Brimble's captivating new novel. . .

Since girlhood, Emily Darson has accepted that she will marry Nicholas, the son of her father's trusted business partner. The marriage contract safeguards her family legacy, Emily's fortune, and everything she values--except her independence. Only when a sinfully handsome scoundrel enters her life does Emily realize quite how much a loveless match will cost her.

Will Samson has advanced from expert pickpocket to confidence trickster of the highest caliber. Now he has come to Bath to exact vengeance on the man who destroyed his mother--the man Emily will soon marry. But from his first glimpse of the enemy's bewitching, spirited fiancée, Will's plan changes.

Amid the ballrooms and salons of elegant society, heated glances explode into scandalous kisses. Revenge is sweet, but surrender will be irresistible. . .

  1. Best of luck with your new book, Rachel. Don't you love the creative process of coming up with a story idea? So much fun! Ha, maybe you should branch out and bring your historical across the pond...

    1. I'm too scared to set it in the US, Jannine! Worried someone will say I've get the tone wrong or something, I just don't know. I'd LOVE to set something during the American Civil War - maybe a British woman in Virginia...

I'm desperate to tackle an American history course but can't find anything here :(

  2. Hi Rachel,
Best of luck with this new book, sounds intriguing.
My favourite historical era to write about is the Edwardian one, more precisely the 1st World War, such a tragic and moving period in our history.

    Regards

    1. There is SO much to write about in that period too, isn't there? Feel spoilt for choice most of the time which is a much nicer place to be than worrying where your next idea is coming from!

    1. Yes I did. And you and Alison were missed. I didn't like missing last months, and I've not been coming as long as you. Are you going to the RNA conference this year? I can't make up my mind or not... Let me know via email if easier :D
