Welcome romance author, J M Anton....

I am happy to welcome J M Anton to my site today - I think I'm right in saying we haven't met before, JM so I'm very much looking forward to learning more about you and your work. Let's get started with the questions!

1)   Did you set any goals for 2012?
I wrote the first draft of Fateful Waters as part of the NaNoWriMo challenge to write a novel of at least 50,000 words during November of 2011. My goal for 2012 was to finish, revise, and have a print copy in my hands by the end of the year.

2)   What is the best part of the writing process for you?
The best part of the writing process for me is when my characters take on a life of their own, and begin to argue about my plans for them.

3)   The worst part?
The absolute worst part is the revision. It can be brutal. Often the process requires cutting characters and scenes that I have spent many hours, some times weeks or months developing,

4)   What is the book you wish you’d written?
That is a tough question. Strictly on a commercial aspect, I would have to go with “Gone With the Wind” or the “Harry Potter” series. Both are timeless and will be enjoyed by generations to come, in print and on TV reruns of the films.

5)   Favourite author/s & book/s?
I was recently heartened to find that my favorite author of all time, Zane Grey, was at one time a self-published author. I have a collection of six first editions, but my favorite is “The Wilderness Trek.”

6)   Tell us about your latest release?
“Fateful Waters” came to life as a result of TV ads promoting online dating sites, and news articles about the deepening draught in the Southwest. What if began to form in the back of my mind. I took two young women and transported them from the shores of Lake Erie to the Texas Panhandle. One of the recent college grads makes the trip to spend some time with her online Romeo, and the pair encounter much more than they’d expected.

7)   What is your favourite attribute of the hero and heroine?
Cutter is a dominant male who is used to having his dictates adhered to, and he finds it difficult to deal with the independent, volatile Lexie. They fight their attraction to each other, while taking on drought, wildfires, and a trio of criminals.

8)   What’s next?
“Firestorm of the Heart” is the sequel to “Fateful Waters,” A preview is at the conclusion of Lexie and Cutter’s story. It will be released in 2014; there is a two-year time lag required for the follow up novel.
Two other novels nearer completion are: “Cassandra: Night Shades, which deals with a young woman who believed her entire family had died nearly two decades earlier only to find out her father just passed. She sets out to find out why her father turned his back on her. She makes a powerful enemy, and finds an ally in the form of a young Marine who seems to know way too much about her. “Wind River Refuge” takes place during the era of the Viet Nam War. It has a strange paranormal twist that helps the hero and heroine solve a string of brutal murders that track back decades.

9)                  Tell me where you write?
Most of my writing is done on my computer in a room that was once my eldest daughter’s bedroom. However, I carry a note pad in my handbag and a smaller version in the pocket of my jacket. You never know when inspiration will strike.

10)                  Where would you like your career to be in 5 years?
Five years from now I hope a growing number of readers know my name and look forward to my next book release. That is already beginning to happen with my Family-Friendly Series “Backyard Horse Tales” and I have hopes that my adult novels will follow suit.

FATEFUL WATERS

BLURB:

Follow Melinda Potter and Alexandra Parker, across the country, as the friends travel from their home on the shores of Lake Erie to the drought-stricken state of Texas. After graduation from The Ohio State University, Melinda has a date with an online Romeo. Lexie, who is supposed exert a moderating influence on her impulsive friend, winds up in a hospital where she wakes to everyone calling her Mrs. Ross.  She doesn’t have a clue how she got there, or who Mr. Ross is.
Excerpt:

The SUV skidded in the slime now covering the previously dry, dusty road. Lexie retrieved her phone from an inside pocket of her navy colored, leather, handbag. Disgusted, she laid it on the center console. Smart or not, the directional phone apps had not shed any light on her dilemma. She was really beginning to feel lousy, so she twisted of the cap on the antibiotic that she had just picked up at the drugstore. The prescription label said it was to be taken with food, but she was desperate to head of a recurrence of what sure felt like the flu, so she downed the pill with the remainder of a bottle of water she’d placed in the cup holder. Lexie picked up the small communication device, located Melinda’s name, and she poked the small screen much harder than required to connect to her friend. She wanted to scream! Why me Lord? Melinda didn’t have a clue how to direct her. While her friend checked with David, she slipped into her navy jacket. As the rain increased the heat of earlier began to cool, and she was experiencing a chill. Lexie switched from the air conditioner to the heater.

She was sitting in the middle of a dirt road, in an increasing rain, and the surface was quickly becoming a quagmire. She hoped that Melinda, was writing down directions, and that was why she was taking so much time.

Roommates since their freshman year at Ohio State, Alexandra Parker and Melinda Potter had become close friends. After nearly five years, their friendship had grown to the point they each knew the other’s personality quirks. Lexie knew Melinda well enough to be skeptical about the accuracy of the written directions that her friend had left for her when she went on ahead with David. Commonsense had dictated that she enter his ranch address in the GPS, just in case.

    1. It's great to meet another Zane Grey fan. I am sure that had Zane lived in today's world his writing would be quite changed.

      Happy New Year, Micki.
