Welcome multi-published author, Sylvie Kaye!!

Today, I am starting a run of interviews with authors and editors who are part of The Wild Rose Press' latest series. The Honky-Tonk series is based around a bar, where some part of each story must take place - no matter how small. Sounds like fun and I can't wait to meet the authors and learn more about it.

Multi-published author, Sylvie Kaye is kicking off the series - welcome, Sylvie!

1) What is your writing routine?

I like to write in the morning when my mind is fresh and rewrite in the evening. I have an office, where I work in the mornings, but I’ve been a bit lazy lately and have been using my laptop while sitting in my recliner in the evenings.

2) Which author/s inspire you to write?

I love Sandra Brown since I read Slow Heat in Heaven, more recently Lisa Gardner. I like the D. D. Warren series.

3) Which is your favorite romance subgenre to read? To write?

I like to read contemporary suspense/thrillers. For escape, because I write contemporary romances, I love to read historicals.

4) How do you deal with criticism/rejection?

Unless it’s mean-spirited, I take criticism as a learning tool and use the opinions or suggestions to improve my writing. Rejections are part of the business. I can’t say an “R” isn’t disappointing, but I try not to take it personally. Karen, my cp, put me on to calling it an R instead of a rejection, and it seems to help give the distance I need to Regroup. I’ve gotten the process down to three days, with the help of a good dose of chocolate. Then I’m back at work!

5) What do you expect from an editor?

Honesty and suggestions as to how to make my story better. Stacy Holmes my editor for Honky Tonk Man had a knack for getting me to dig deeper.

6) Tell me about your latest release: Honky Tonk Man is the launch story for the new series, Honky Tonk Hearts, at The Wild Rose Press.

All the stories in the series involve the Lonesome Steer Honky Tonk where the owner has seen his share of wandering souls cross his bar and dance floor over the years—he even likes to think he’s helped a few find true love along the way.

7) Tease us with a blurb or short excerpt:

He has rules for a reason.

Pool shooting, guitar playing, honky tonk singer, Jace Monroe, has a knack for hooking up with the wrong kind of women, rich ones who don't take him or his music seriously. So when he meets a down-to-earth, honey-haired waitress at the Lonesome Steer Honky Tonk, he thinks his luck has finally changed.

Rules have never been her strong suit.

The last place Sunny Brooks wants to be is on her daddy's thriving ranch, but her mother needs her. To escape the constant concern for her mother's health and stay out of her father's overbearing presence, she spends most nights out at the Lonesome Steer Honky Tonk and eventually in the arms of Jace.

But when misconceptions come to light, the sweet music they make together might be silenced forever unless she can show her honky tonk man that some rules are meant to be broken.

8) Which is your favorite character in the book? Why?

Wow, that’s a tough question. I like all my characters. Even my secondary ones, which I try to make colorful, regardless how small their roles. If I had to chose I’d say, Jace, the honky tonk man. He’s not just a sexy, down on his luck musician. A cowboy and a guitar player, come on that’s a winning combination! But he also has a code of ethics he tries to live by and has a strong sense of family. I admire his loyalty.

9) What are you working on right now?

I’m working on my first mystery/suspense novel. I have a sprinkling of mystery or suspense in my books, even in my erotica novellas, so it was a natural progression.

10) Your biggest piece of advice to aspiring novelists?

Never Quit. We all struggle and become discouraged, but keep writing! And reading!

11) Where can readers find you?

  6. I'm late, I know. Too much to do on a busy Saturday. Ladies, I've read HONKY TONK MAN. Woo-eeee, I loved it, especially the dance scene.

I can't wait to read all the stories in the Honky Tonk Hearts line. Mine won't be out until late June, so that gives me time to read everyone else's and enjoy the way we each took a premise and made it uniquely own own. How cool is that?

Don't miss out on the debut book of our series!!

  11. Hi Felicia...
For some reason I can't get the reply button to work for me. lol..always a tech challenge.
The inspiration was actually the song title, "Honky Tonk Woman." It popped to mind, and I flipped it to honky tonk man! Once I had a cowboy with a guitar, well, what's sexier than that.
Nothing but the woman who can capture his heart. :)
    Thanks for coming by!
