The Romantic Suspense Tour continues - Leanne Dyck

The Romantic Supsense tour continued with my guest, Leanne Dyck - welcome, Leanne! This tour has been a great success and is still going on so make sure you follow us around. I am appearing on Chris Redding's blog sometime this week so please pop by to keep me company - here's the link:

Ok, over to you Leanne!

In The Sweater Curse, a chance meeting between lead character Gwen Bjarnson and minor character Pathan weaves their lives together. For reasons beyond Gwen’s understanding, she feels compelled to help Pathan establish her career as a vocalist.

In this quote, Gwen describes Pathan’s first stage performance:

‘It was Friday night, The Starving Artist was packed-typical for open mic night. …

I think I was more nervous than she was. Be good, be good, I silently repeated.

The café was filled with polite applause.

“I’d like to dedicate my first song to my friend, Gwen.” She sang, “Stand By Me”, and you could have heard needles click. Each performer was to do two songs each, but the audience wouldn’t let Pathan leave until she offered them three.”

(John Lennon singing Stand By Me)

Here Gwen describes Pathan’s singing at a funeral:

‘Pathan begins to sing “Into The Mystic”. Tears threaten her voice. … She struggles for control and wins. Her song fills the room, wraps around the mourners, comforting them…

Pathan…begins to sing “I Will Remember You”. She begins quietly, but with each verse, the volume increases. Other voices marry with hers.’

Writing songs into my story was fun, and I won’t hesitate to do it again.

"Stitch by colorful stitch, Leanne Dyck knits a tale of intrigue with The Sweater Curse

Leanne Dyck has crafted a tale as exotic and existential as Danish author Isak Dinesen's... This book defies genre definitions as it finds its unique place on the fiction shelves. Here's hoping Leanne Dyck returns many times to the intriguing roots of her family's past.

Welcome romance author, Jordan K Rose!!

Welcome, Jordan! You are the first author I have hosted who has a dedicated website for one of her characters. What is it about Eva that makes her so special? Will she star in a series of vampire romances? I'm intrigued already!

Hi Rachel. Thanks so much for having me on the blog today. I appreciate the opportunity.

1) Did you set any goals for 2011?

Yes and I’ve managed to meet one of them. Launching a website was one of my big goals. I launched www.evaprim.com on April 1st. Doing a final polish of Eva’s story is another goal. I’ve also set the goal of pitching her story at the NEC Conference in Salem this weekend and at FictionFest in Connecticut next month.

2) What is the best part of the writing process for you?

Getting to know my characters. I’m a character-driven writer so my stories come to me through the character’s personalities. Once I know who they are I’m able to move through a story with them.

3) The worst part?

I’d have to say the worst part is knowing something’s not right or is missing from the story, but not knowing exactly what. Sometimes it seems to take forever for me to figure it out. I work on other aspects and bounce ideas off my critique partner until the answer presents itself.

4) What is the book you wish you’d written?

Hmm. I can’t say I wish I’d written anyone else’s book. I love to read other writers’ work and never think, “Oh, I wish I’d thought of this.” If I’d thought of it, the story would have been different.

5) Favourite author/s & book/s?

I love Christine Feehan’s Dark Prince, Jeannine Frost’s Night Huntress Series, Kerrilyn Sparks’ The Vampire and The Virgin- loved the Blubbly and Bleer. Can you tell I enjoy a good vampire romance?

6) Tell us about your latest work?

Right now I’m working on a straight Urban Fantasy, though my heroine, Eva Prim, is a vampire who is married to her Master, Stefan. Their relationship is pivotal to her story. He is the Master for the entire New England Region. She is a quirky little vampire whose entire goal is to have girlfriends to do girl-things with. Of course, she single-handedly outs vampires via the internet, accidentally lures her husband’s nemesis to her house and unintentionally sets her husband up to be executed. She’s got some issues.

7) Tease us with a blurb/short except

Chryssie wants a friend. But friendship isn’t an easy accomplishment for a vampire with a notorious history of catastrophic proportions. At least not until she discovers the internet. Within a few keystrokes she finds a world of friends waiting for her and manages to out the entire vampire community.

Can Chryssie undo her latest debacle before her master realizes she’s the vampire behind www.evaprim.com or will her latest and greatest catastrophe be her last?

“I will be very late tonight, possibly not getting home until just about dawn,” Stefan says, standing and kissing my forehead. “I would appreciate you staying home.”

“That’s fine. I have some…” I smile. “Some reading to catch up on.”

His gaze wanders over me, a warm brush of his presence.

I feel my cheeks flush.

His left eyebrow rises. “What are you reading?”

I squeeze his hands and avoid his eyes. “Oh, a little something.”

I turn away to lead him toward the door.

“Chryssie, what book?” He’s right behind me, close enough that it’s not his presence I feel, but his body molded to mine. His arms wrap around my waist as he pulls me back against him. “What book?”

“Nothing to worry about.” I try to wiggle loose, but he only holds me tighter.

“You haven’t been down in my personal library again, have you?” He breathes the words into my ear, and my legs go all rubbery.

I giggle, sliding my hand between his lips and my ear. “Stop that. You told me not to read any of those books, so I’m not.”

“You’re sure?”

“Positive. The last time I read one I didn’t really enjoy the ending.” Who would? How was I supposed to know? When you read some book of odd scripture and end up releasing forty demons, you don’t enjoy the ending. Trust me. I learned my lesson.

“The story hasn’t quite ended. Cheng and Martin are still working on that,” he says, brushing my hair back from my neck and kissing me.

Cheng and Martin work for Stefan. They’re wonderful. Two of the most talented, strongest, fastest, deadliest- but in a nice way, vampires I’ve ever met.

“How many more?” I rest my head back against his chest.

“They’ve managed to send twenty-eight back. They’ll be busy for a while.”

He kisses my cheek. “I love you, darling. Promise me you will stay home tonight.” He steps in front of me, straightening his jacket and reaching for the doorknob. “The wolves are on duty this evening. You shouldn’t have any problems.”

“I promise.” I spin around and head back toward the desk.

Before I’ve taken a full step, he appears in front of me. “You’re up to something.”

“What do you mean?” My voice is perfectly even, not a single note raised.

I have perfected poker face. Most vampires are good at it. I am not good at it. I am exceptional.

There’s just one little problem.

“Look at me, Chryssie.” And there it is.

You see, to look at him gives him an opportunity to study me, my emotions, my thoughts. I’ve been working on blocking him and on occasion I am able to do it. That is, I am able to do it, if he’s not completely focused on me and there’s a lot of distance between us. But when he’s standing two inches from me, it’s a whole other story.

8) What is your favourite attribute of the hero and heroine?

I love that Eva says whatever comes to mind. She’s very genuine and wears her heart on her sleeve in a very mischievous sort of way. Stefan is very suave and typically a very shrewd businessman but his unyielding love of Eva inevitably weakens him.

9) What’s next?

I’m planning to write the second book in my Urban Fantasy Romance series next. That story centers around a reincarnated woman whose destiny is to return lost souls to The Light. Her vampire husband is one of those souls.

10) Tell me where you write?

I have a home office with a great view of the woods behind our house. I mostly write there, though sometimes I sit in the parlor in front of the fireplace. In the summer months I sit on the deck. I need a quiet space for writing. No radio or ITunes.

11) Where would you like your career to be in 5 years?

I probably have the same dream as most writers- to write full time. Realistically- I’d like to be able to work my day job part-time and write the rest of the time. It would be so nice to spend my days writing instead of squeezing it in around my full-time job. J

12) Where can we find you? www.evaprim.com or www.jordankrose.com. Follow me on twitter @jordankrose or Follow Eva @evaprim. Eva also has a Facebook page: www.facebook.com/people/Eva-Prim/100002039274206

Great interview, Jordan - I wish you all the luck in the world with your pitch and Eva's story. Clearly she is one special lady!

Eva and I are waiting to hear from you...

Welcome fellow Wild Rose Press author, Cherie Le Claire!

So happy to welcome back Cherie Le Clare to my website, fabulous author, wonderful lady and best of all, it's Cherie's birthday today!

Many happy returns!!!

Why do we celebrate Easter?

It’s my birthday today, which set me thinking about annual traditions.

Easter has been and gone for another year, but unless you had a Christian upbringing, or attend a Christian church, you may well be wondering why we celebrate Easter. Maybe it’s merely a good excuse to munch on chocolate eggs and hot cross buns, and have a long weekend(in New Zealand, where I live, we have two public holidays – Good Friday and Easter Monday).

Easter actually began as a pagan tradition, with the celebration of Eastre, the Anglo-Saxon goddess of early Spring. The hare and the egg were Goddess Eastre’s symbols of fertility and new life, as in the hare’s ability to breed, and as in the chick bursting from the shell as representation of new life.

This pagan festival of Spring was transferred, when pagans converted to Christianity, to the observance of Jesus’ death (Good Friday) and celebration of his resurrection (Easter Sunday).

By the 19th century, the White Easter Hare had transformed into the Easter Rabbit, and then became the Easter Bunny, which we know it as today.

Did you know that Germany, back in the 1800s, was the first country to make an edible Easter Bunny? These treats were made out of pastry and sugar. It’s amazing how a good idea spreads throughout the world, isn’t it?

My mother’s tradition every Easter was to toast Hot Cross Buns for us as a special Good Friday breakfast – mmmm, dripping with melted butter – yum! And then we’d have to wait till Sunday morning for the Chocolate Easter Eggs – which we’d quickly gobble up before heading out to Sunday School and church. My favourites have always been the chocolate marshmallow eggs (unique to New Zealand?)Hollow chocolate bunnies and eggs are yummy, too.

But, to return to my opening paragraph, what significance is the Easter holiday in an increasingly secular society? It doesn’t even make sense as a pagan tradition of the passing of Winter, on this side of the world – New Zealand, Australia and the Pacific Islands – because, at this time of the year, we are in Autumn, not Spring!

Importing other cultural festivities doesn’t seem logical sometimes – the American tradition of Halloween is a perfect example on this side of the globe. October, for us, means Springtime, not Autumn/Fall and the arrival of Winter. But, of course, the kids get excited about Trick and Treating even if it is virtually meaningless to them.

I’ll leave you with a tale to ponder – a supreme example of someone blindly following tradition without stopping to question why. “Ann’s mother always slices a corner off the pot roast before cooking it. Why do you do that? Ann asks. Because that’s what your grandmother does. But why? Ann asks. I don’t know, replies her mother. We’ll ask Granny. And Granny says, Because my pot is too small to fit the whole roast in, so I chop a corner off the meat to make it fit.”

And the moral of the story is? I’ll leave that for you to work out…

Interesting post, Cherie... and even though I have told you this privately, I am insanely jealous over your cover, it is GORGEOUS!!

Anyway, back to your post. For me the moral of the story is, think for yourself and not to blindly follow other 'just because'. I can guarantee all the great visionaries and successes of the world, past and present, took action on their own thoughts and beliefs rather than others. What do you think?

Looking forward to reading your thoughts!

Welcome author, Jerri Drennan!!!

First of all, I am sooo sorry, Jerri for posting your interview so late!! It has been a manic few days but today I am finally back on track. Jerri will be here for over a week now as I am off on holiday so I hope that makes up for my tardiness!

Over to you...

1) Where do you write?

Jerri: Well, I write in my office, which really is the dining room.
2) What is the best & worst part about the writing process for you?

Jerri: I struggle with endings. I want them to be satisfying to me and to my readers. That's why it takes me so long to write the end. I love it when the book writes itself. I've had that happen a few times.

3) When did you first consider yourself a writer?

Jerri: I think it was when I finished my third book.

4) What is the best & worst advice you’ve received about writing?

Jerri: That's a good question. I think it's write what you know.

5) Which comes first? Plot or characters?

Jerri: For me, it's the characters.

6) What is a typical day for you?

Jerri: I get up around 3 and check my e-mail, then I try to write until I have to get my kids up for school. That in itself in a total nightmare. Two teenagers who never want to get up. After they're gone, I try and write again. The rest of the day is spent with housework and any other things I have to get done.

7) Where do you see your career in five years?

Jerri: I hope to have a few fans and a lot more books under my belt.

8) What do you like to do when you’re not writing?

Jerri: I watch a lot of TV. In the Spring and Summer I love to yard sale and garden.

Untouched
Botanist Madeline Wentworth is relieved to be heading into the Amazon, far from the university and the vicious rumors circulating about her failed love affair. But on arriving in Peru, her team finds their guide dead with a small puncture wound to his neck. Waiting to replace him is Travis Kane, Amazon guide, treasure hunter, and superhunk. Mattie is instantly attracted but uncomfortably suspicious. When a member of her team falls ill and a similar puncture wound is found on his body, her suspicions deepen.

Travis has stuck with being a jungle guide for over ten years despite a run of unsavory clients. The rain forest is full of hidden ruins and undiscovered treasure, and he’s determined to find his share. But when his grandfather dies, leaving a letter boasting of Templar gold, he’s sure it's nothing more than an old man’s delusion. Everything changes when he finds his grandfather’s map. With high hopes, he leads Mattie’s team into the rain forest and finds himself overwhelmed by the beautiful blonde. When the group is attacked and has to fight its way out of the jungle, Travis discovers something more precious than gold--the love of a woman who’s made him want to be a better man.

Excerpt

“Dr. Wentworth?” a deep, compelling voice asked.
Mattie looked up. “Yes,” was all she could muster, spellbound by the pair of striking, brandy-colored eyes of a tall, well-built man standing before her.
She swallowed to clear her throat.
“I was told that you might need a guide.” He reached into his shirt pocket and pulled out a folded slip of paper. “Here are my credentials. I’ve been a wilderness guide for over ten years, and I know the area.”
Uncharacteristically, Mattie found herself tongue-tied. She had never seen such a gorgeous man in her life. His hair was a rich chocolate brown, cut short on the sides, slightly longer on top. His nose was straight and his features were perfectly proportioned. His lips were strong, firm, and the color of deep Mediterranean coral. From the stubble on his chin, it looked as if he hadn’t shaven in a few days. The effect gave him a rugged, outdoorsy appeal. The only thing less than perfect on the man was a thin, white scar running from his nose to his lip. She wondered how he’d gotten it. An occupational hazard perhaps?
To fight the urge to sigh, she unfolded the paper and studied his certifications. The résumé was impressive if it was on the up-and-up. “You know this area well then, Mr., ah...” She scanned the sheet of paper, then returned her attention to him. “Kane.”
He nodded.
His eyes mesmerized Mattie. She blinked and hauled her mind back on track. “Do you think you could be ready to leave later this afternoon? We want to get started right away cataloging plants. We’ve been prepared since we arrived four days ago. The guide we’d originally commissioned died the day we landed in Manu.”
His arched brows drew together. “I’d need to get my own supplies rounded up, but I could probably be ready by then. Could you tell me the name of the guide who died?”
“Yes, he was a local man. Chaz Juntas.”
Pain crossed his features.
“You knew him?”
“Yes. He was a good man. We’d gone into the Amazon a number of times together.”
“I’m sorry.” Mattie looked down at her cup, noting her shaky hands. Was it the reaction to Travis Kane or was the dream still working on her nerves?
“Have you rented trucks for the trip yet?” His question had her glancing back at him. “If not, I could see what I can do. How many are in your party?”
“Six altogether. Two men and four women.”
His eyes narrowed. “Four women?”
“Yes. Is that a problem?” Was the guy a chauvinist?
He inhaled, then shook his head. “No, no problem. What about the trucks? Have you got them lined up then?”
“Yes. The supplies are already loaded too. Chaz had arranged it all before we’d arrived.”
“Where are they now?”
“At the edge of town. The authorities have been keeping an eye on them to make sure nothing is stolen.”
“I’ll meet you there around two o’clock. Be ready to move out immediately. I want to get a few hours’ travel in before we need to set up camp.”
“We’ll be ready, Mr. Kane.”
He turned and walked away.
Mattie sighed.
Had she been too quick to hire him? Had the man’s qualifications won her over or did his looks and physique have her practically begging him to guide them? She wasn’t sure--and even if she were, she didn’t care. They had a sober guide who didn't give her the creeps and that was all that mattered right now.

Time for an update, me thinks!!

As I have a free space today with no guest author, I thought I ought to take the opportunity to share my latest news and what I'm writing right now...

Well, of course, my biggest news is I now an agent, YAY!!!!!!! I recently signed with Dawn Dowdle of the Blue Ridge Literary Agency based in the US. Dawn offered me representation after reading my latest Victorian historical and we will begin editing around July time, so I'll keep you posted to what is happening with the book as and when.

In the meantime?

Well, I am working on a romantic suspense novella which I hope to have finished by mid-May. It is set in the mountainous region of North Wales and revolves around the a holiday trio of friends who re-unite ten years later when one of them is found brually murdered. The hero and heroine join forces to find their friends killer....

More news to follow but in the meantime, I will continue to get more and more excited about my week away in Fuerteventura!

Kristine Cheney is here to talk about what it takes...

Hi Kristine, you are my third (might be fourth!) guest from Astraea Press. Every single author I have spoken to absolutely loves writing for them and after a sneak preview at your interview, I see you feel the same way. It is so great when a new publisher comes onto the market and writers know they are worth submitting to. Great stuff. Let's start, shall we?

1) Did you set any goals for 2011?

My main goal was to find a publisher for my manuscript. I had already edited my ms at least eight times. I felt I was ready. But I didn’t want to find just any publisher. I wanted one who shared similar ideals as I do. For myself, I had a personal struggle with writing erotic love scenes in my book. I didn’t want them to be overly descriptive. I had submitted to a few publishers and felt the pressure to include erotica in my work. This was an area I didn’t want to compromise on. It wasn’t what my heart wanted me to do. And then I found Astraea Press. I had found a perfect match. I no longer have to worry about being pressured to write in a way that I don’t feel comfortable with, but I could still express my love scenes in a way that was real, and focused on the emotional aspects rather than the physical aspects. I am really stoked about that.

2) What is the best part of the writing process for you?

Having a publisher, I no longer have to worry about trying to beg an agent or a publisher to acknowledge my writing ability. All I have to worry about now is just cranking out a great story. It really is different, to be able to allow myself to relax and enjoy the writing experience. It is the best feeling.

3) The worst part?

When I began writing, I had no idea there were rules. I had this naïve idea that whatever I wrote could come straight from the heart, and from this fresh new well of thought, idea, and expression. Wrong! My style could come forth, all right, but it had to be within certain boundaries. My writing had to respect the rules of engagement. The unfortunate part is that there was no thorough list of guidelines I could find (and believe me I looked) that could tell me what those rules were. I learned them the hard way, as my writing evolved. I had to earn my stripes, so to speak. I would get the knowledge in bits and pieces, so I must have given my manuscript a full edit at least eight times, always having to apply my newest coveted lesson. Things would have been so much easier for me in the beginning of my writing process if I had only known, such as: show-don’t tell, writing in an active voice, never use dismembered body parts, keep your POV’s straight (no head-hopping), no misplaced modifiers, get rid of most words that end in “ly”, and there are a few others.

4) What is the book you wish you’d written?

Without a doubt, The Notebook. That story is crisp, beautiful, and it strikes a chord in my soul that shakes my entire being. I would love to claim that amazing piece of art.

5) Favorite author/s & book/s?

I read my first romance novel when I was twelve. The book was “The Flame and the Flower” by Kathleen Woodiwiss. It was an instant addiction. Over the years I have enjoyed Johanna Lindsey, Maggie Shayne, Susan Johnson, Pamela Browning’s “Lover’s Leap” was a wonderful story. I love romance that revolves around family and the birth of children. There is just something about it that pulls at my heartstrings.

6) Tell us about your latest release?

Spartan Heart is a romance that blends a little bit of history and time travel with paranormal elements. Paranormal is a great genre because it allowed me to play with my characters and give them super Alpha traits, such as increased speed, crisp vibrant vision, exceptional hearing and strength, and the ability to read the minds of others.

SH revolves around my heroine Evangeline Montgomery, who lives in modern day England. Her heart is set on following the family tradition of studying archaeology at Cambridge University, but she is unexpectedly sent away by her parents, and forced to attend Princeton University in America. Nine years later she is still angry, but she is forced to return home after the tragic murder of her parents. Ridden with guilt and loss, Evan is the only member of her family left alive. She must pick up the pieces of her shattered heart and assume ownership of the family’s beloved Greco-Roman museum in London. Evan gets a little tipsy after a night out with her best friend. She recalls the secret underground passage in her basement that leads to the bowels of the museum. Feeling the need to walk down memory lane, she makes the trek and stumbles upon the forgotten statue of Spartan warrior Prince Dorieus. With a kiss, Evan releases Dorien from a bitter oracle’s curse. Unfortunately, she passes out in his arms before she ever gets a chance to meet him.

Forever immortal, an enamored Prince Dorien carries Evan to the safety of her bedroom. He is well aware someone had marked this beautiful woman for death. Wanting to protect her, he never expects to share a night of passion with her. Night after night he is drawn to her like a moth to a flame. Tall and deliciously sculpted, this emerald eyed warrior stakes his claim.

The oracle Demona is well aware of Dorien’s resurrection from the curse she placed him in. With meddle and mayhem she tries to stake her own claim on the man she tried to preserve for herself. It matters little that Dorien has rejected her, or that Evangeline carries Dorien’s half-breed immortal twins. Somehow she is determined to force him into loving her, even if it done with a little bit of magic.

Demona’s lies are slowly unraveled. Evangeline and Dorien travel to Italy in search of his loyal men. Danger and mystery cloud everything. But Dorien gets caught up in Demona’s treachery. In an effort to save Evangeline and his unborn children, he makes a wager that could cost him his soul. If Evangeline fails to produce him a son, Demona wins him forever. Time and fate breached centuries to give Dorien and Evangeline their love, but can it be enough to save them from the will of evil?

This book encompasses the magic of love, friendship, family, and adventure. I am so proud of this book.

7) Tease us with a blurb/short except

The heavy mahogany door opened without a sound. Dorien stood in awe, surprised at the sight of such elegant décor. Even as a prince of Sparta, his people were modest and simple. They didn’t allow for such luxuries. Every room in this house was more decadent than any palace court.

Carnal thoughts were forced aside. He admired the massive, old world four-poster bed. Its violet and gold jewel-colored covering was regal. Large over-stuffed pillows were inviting. Majestic nightstands stood on both sides of the bed. A velvet, gold, chaise lounge beckoned at the foot. Colorful tapestries and paintings graced every wall. He appreciated the triple dresser and boisterous armoire. Spotting the huge stone fireplace, its presence enhanced the room. The warmth of a fire would fill this chamber with a tranquil, seductive ambience.

Dorien froze and gasped out loud. Sight of his reflection was caught in the mirror. Gazing upon the cast of a stranger, how many years had it been since he last looked upon his own face? He shook his head. The only thing pressing him this moment was Evangeline’s comfort. Laying her on the mattress, Dorien flinched. His chest felt the impact of a physical blow.

Her lips were blue!

Wet from head to toe, Evangeline’s tender flesh was covered in goose bumps. Honey-wheat strands of saturated hair stuck to her face and shoulders. Her teeth chattered hard, almost enough to break. Her body shook in a responsive effort to warm itself. Dorien had been a fool! How had he not noticed? He should have paid close attention to her mortal needs!

In a flash, he reached the fireplace. Thick logs of timber were tossed, thudding against the back of the hearth. He needed to hurry; a fire would help ward off her chill.

Evangeline stirred. Dorien’s attention flew back towards the bed. Her head rolled back and forth. He sensed confusion and fear in her thoughts. Her fingers reached for him blind. The helpless sound of Evangeline’s cries penetrated his soul. She was well aware she wasn’t alone.

“D-d-don’t leave me, p-p-please! H-h-help me!”

Dorien rushed to her side and fell to his knees. He rubbed his hands up and down the length of her velvety arms. “Quiet, Evan. I am here and will not leave you. Let me start a fire, love. I promise not to leave you. I shall come right back.”

Evangeline’s eyes were large and vacant; she was bewildered. She stared into his face. Reading her thoughts, she was fighting to place him.

“W-w-who are you?” The fear in her voice was evident. Its tremble wasn’t from chill.

“My name is Dorien. I am here to help you and will not harm you. Will you trust me?”

She nodded profusely, pulling tight fists over her chest. It was a weak attempt to find warmth. Dorien rose to his feet. He was slammed by the impact of her panic the moment he tried to leave her side. Evangeline clawed at him in desperation. Her gasps came in forced ragged breaths.

“No! P-p-lease help me. I’m s-so c-c-cold.”

Lost in her shivers, she struggled to remain conscious. He winced at the sight of saturated clothes. They clung against every curve of her beautiful body. He hadn’t broken a sweat through the passage, but the cold, damp air soaked her clothes, chilling her to her bones. Life as a soldier had taught him well. If he didn’t light a fire or remove the garments, she could fall sick or worse. Disappointment in his negligence ran deep.

How had he been so careless?

He decided again to get up, but Evangeline refused to let him leave her side. There was only one other thing he could do. Gritting his teeth, he untied the flimsy shoulder straps of her drenched white sundress. It was torture freeing fragile pearl buttons snuggled between her breasts.

Fire was igniting all right, but it was in all the wrong places. His fingers brushed her pale tender skin with every shivered breath. He leaned her body against his chest. Pulling the dress over her head, he threw it across the room like a venomous creature. Dorien laid her back against the mattress. He didn’t deny himself the opportunity to gaze upon her. His stomach tightened. The curves of her body beckoned for his touch. He couldn’t tear his gaze from the delicious sight of violet lace panties.

Women of Sparta never wore anything like that!

8) What is your favorite attribute of the hero and heroine?

Evangeline has a heart like no other. Despite the pain of her loss, she is resilient and sensitive to the feelings of everyone around her. She is strong, even though she thinks she is so weak. Her will is resourceful and amazing; she always rises up to the challenge. Her humor is forked; a girl after my own heart. Loyalty and family is everything to her…and so is the love of her beloved Spartan.

Dorien is an Alpha with a heart. He is strong, he is fearless, and his royal blood makes him used to being regarded as leader. He is used to winning. I love his convictions; his desire for justice. The man has a passion and intention that drives me wild. He sees something and is not afraid to go after it. He claims what it is his, something most men of today could learn a few lessons from. He isn’t afraid to admit his mistakes, and he stands to the challenge of paying the price for them. This man knows how to love.

9) What’s next?

I am currently working on Spartan Heart, Part 2, which is the continuation of Spartan Heart, Part 1, and is expected to be released next week on April 12th. SH1 and SH2 is really one book, but I split them into two books intentionally to get my readers used to the idea that this is going to be a Saga series. My next task will be to complete the next book in the Spartan Heart Saga called Spartan Surrender. This book encompasses the love of Taryn and Thessalus, who were both featured in Spartan Heart, Part 2. I hope to have this one available by Summer 2011. After Spartan Surrender, I will then be working on Spartan Proposal, which is already written, but needs editing. I hope to have this book out by Fall 2011. The last two books in the series are Spartan Rapture and Spartan Fire, and should be ready for release sometime in 2012.

10) Tell me where you write?

I have decorated a “writing room” which is now my favorite room in the house. It is filled with my candle holders and the décor is feminine and inspiring. I don’t listen to music when I write because I find it distracting, but if I hear a song in the car, it can inspire lots of fabulous ideas. My true muse is water. Rain. The sounds of a storm. The waves of the ocean. A babbling brook or stream…and yes, even the shower, lol! *blushes* Being an Arizona native, we have to take water whenever we can get it. Needless to say, a lot of my ideas have been inspired while in the shower! Also, I absolutely love candles! I like to light a bunch of candles around my writing area before I sit to write. They are relaxing, ambient, romantic, and they set the mood and tone for me. The aroma fills all of my senses. (Partylite candles are my favorite because they smell so darn good and burn clean!) Coffee is always a decadent treat. I love it with sugar and a healthy splash of Coffeemate Crème Brule liquid creamer. This concoction is Heaven in a cup, let me tell you!

10) Where would you like your career to be in 5 years?

It is my hope to be a successful and accomplished writer with enough income from my stories to be able to write full-time at home. It is hard to do anything else when my heart is longing and craving to be writing. I pray one day I will be blessed enough to make writing my full-time day job.

Fabulous interview, Kristine - i cannot thank you enough for taking the time to answer my questions so fully! It's so inspirational for aspiring writers to hear what we go through to get published. I was lucky enough to have my first book accepted by The Wild Rose Press but like you I edited that manuscript countless times before I submitted and then a wonderful editors worked back and forth with me to make it shine. It does not happen overnight, that's for sure!
