Welcome fellow Lyrical Press author, Silkie Juppenlatz!

Sooo happy to have a fellow Lyrical Press author visit with me, Silke. It has been far too long since I've chatted with you or any of the other authors there. They seem very shy compared to the rowdy bunch over at The Wild Rose Press, lol! Only teasing ;)

Well, the floor is yours - looking forward to see what you brought to chat about today...

I’m don’t usually blog about my books, and today is no different. J
Yeah, I could, but you’ve probably heard it all before. If you want to check out Howl or Smitten, hop over to my blog and check out the books section, or find both on Amazon.

It’s autumn -- or fall, for you Americans -- and it’s my favorite time of the year.

I love the sight of trees in their autumn colors, the wind tearing at my hair, knocking people’s hats off, turning umbrellas upside down and coats inside out. I love the smell of autumn, too.

It’s no longer hot (not that it was hot here this year, but the ducks sure loved it), but it’s not cold, either. Chestnuts are ripe and dropping, the squirrels are stocking up for winter (and having a right old go at me when I grab a chestnut they had their eye on).

I don’t even mind the rain.

I’m often out, on horseback, rain or shine. Willow isn’t so keen on the wet stuff, she hates rain and would rather go home. Step in a puddle? Good God no! She accidentally steps in water and it’s “Omg. It’s on my hoof now!” You’d think she were in danger of shrinking.

Me? I honestly don’t mind much. If I get wet, I get wet. But for Willow’s sake, I spend a lot of time in the woods, inhaling the fresh, cool air, the scent of pines, leaves and damp earth -- and keep “Milady” out of the wet stuff.

The mornings are often misty now, and if you’re out early enough, you often come across deer, grazing in the mist. Rabbits bounce across my path and the foxes dash through the fields.

Is there anything more spectacular than a ray of sunshine setting the countryside ablaze with the reds and golds of trees in all their autumn glory?

Vineyards tease with their abundance of grapes, while apples and pears drench the air with sweetness.

Most people say spring is their favorite time of year, when the days get longer and things begin to grow. I find spring a kind of boring, dreary time. It’s usually cold, damp and dull. There aren’t any colors yet, and while yes, once the cherry trees are in bloom, it’s spectacular…but until then? Ugh. No thanks.

I find autumn a much more pleasant transition.

I was born on the first day of spring, so I should really be a spring person, and yet, I’m not. Never have been. I’m not a summer person, either. Too hot. Winter? Yeah, I like winter -- when there’s snow. Once the snow turns to slush, I’m not so keen on winter.

And then you have autumn (fall)...

There is still sunshine and you get warm, even hot days. There is a chill in the air and yet it’s not cold enough to make you get the winter coats out. The grass is still green, there are leaves on the trees. There’s a riot of color. Tons of fruits, ready to eat. Nuts in abundance. The ground is soft, but not slushy, or frozen, or dried out and hard.

It just has so much of everything, how can you beat it?

I like this time of year, and if you didn’t, I hope I made you look at it another way, and you’ll like it as much as I do.

Enjoy a spiced apple for me!

Bio:

Silke grew up in Germany and is used to things going bump in the night -- and it wasn't always the acrophobic cat, or someone hitting their head on a low beam on the ceiling.

She writes paranormal romance, usually at night, and blames Anne Stuart to this day for all her ambitions and strange stories, after reading one of her books.

These days the only thing going bump at "oh-dark-thirty" is her -- usually when she smacks into the sofa while creeping to the kitchen for another cup of coffee.

Silke likes to hear from her readers. Feel free to contact her via her blog at http://www.evilauthor.com, follow her on Twitter, look her up on Goodreads or become a friend on Facebook and G+.

Such a fabulous post, Silke! Really, really enjoyed it. I love Autumn too. In the UK summer is so short-lived, it's barely worth mentioning but Autumn is a beautiful time of year here. Where i live in Wiltshire, we are surrounded by countryside and I love nothing more than wrapping up in a jumper, scarf and boots and heading out with my family and black lab, bliss! I have to write a blog post for someone today and I'm going to totally steal your idea. Hope that's okay! :)

  1. No, you do make it sound gorgeous, but you haven't convinced me. Actually, it might be my favorite time of year if it wasn't for the fact that winter was coming next - and I hate the cold!

  2. OMG. We should get married and move to Sherwood Forest! I LOVE FALL! You paint a perfect picture of what I'm going to miss this year, living in the south. :( I love my midwest and northern states. I love the colors and the chill... Jeans and sweaters and coffee and pie. *sigh*

  5. Autumn/fall is my favorite time of year. I always refer to it as "jeans and sweater weather." I live in the mountains. When the leaves change here, it looks like a patchwork quilt. *sigh* Beautiful photos and beautiful descriptions!

  6. Thank you, guys :)
I had a perfect autumn day the other day, with mild weather, sunshine, beautiful colors -- and a horse who didn't want to stand still long enough to let me get on lol.
I think Jack (the horse) likes it too. :)

  7. I love fall/autumn too. My favorite is when the sky is full of blue-gray clouds just ready to burst over bright red, orange and yellow leaves. The contrast of the dark and the light, the blue/purple and the orange/yellow--it's just stunning.

Another thing I love is the way leaves scud across the road in the wind, swirling and scattering like children let out for recess.

Sigh. Absolutely. Autumn is the best time of year.

  8. Ohhhh yes. That's my favorite sky. Slate gray and threatening.
Love the light when it's like that, while the sun still shines.
